Hi. I am a SWM looking for a SWF. ...opps Wrong Forums!

Anyways,

I have spent the last week looking at everyone's work and I can only think of one word to describe what I have seen thus far "Wow!"

My name is Kevin (HURT). I am 26 and live in Houston, TX. My dad was a modeler and I have been building models as long as I can remember. Of course, when you're young and you get that perfect kit for Christmas, your dad always wants to "Help" with it and ends up building the whole damn thing. After 10-15 years of no building due to teenage years of drinking beer, chasing women, and all the other adventures of adolsenses, I have decided to reclaim my modeling hobby. I have learned more the past week simply reading your posts than I have my whole life of building. Thanks everyone for posting and any future help will be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hanging around!

Kevin

It seems everything I love to build, my cat also shares some interest in. The project is usually knocked off the desk a couple of times before I have a chance to complete it!

All joking aside, I seem to be on the same wavelength of interest with everyone else here. The last kit I assemblied was the Tamiya Porsche GT1. From time to time, I even enjoy a good WWII plane to change things up a little. Of course, I haven't built anything in the last 10 years, except the latest Porsche project I just completed. I purchased that kit at least 3 years ago.

Most of the kits I have assemblied are straight from the box, with few upgrades. It seems the world of modeling has changed alot over the last ten years, or the internet just has opened up the doors of oppertunity when it somes to after market kit accessories. Orginally from Oklahoma, Hobby Stores were in small demand. If they didn't stock it at Wal-mart, I never saw it.

Anyways, anyone have any good links for rim and tires? I have searched all through the posts and haven't really came up with anything to impressive, however I have noticed some really nice looking stuff on varies kits. Those toys, where does he get those wonderful toys!?!

For Fujimi/Aoshima rims try www.hlj.com, their stock varies, but their ordering system is very good. Ask around here if their are rims on there you fancy as the sizes vary, best to see if anyone has used them before ordering.

I've heard Pegasus rims are good, but I haven't used them yet. I know some people use their aluminium sleeves to increase the size to increase the diameter of tamiya rims, check the how-to repository for more info.

Has any one got pictures of the Detail Master wheels? Can't find them on the site and I ain't ordering wheels unless I've seen them!

Also, are MAS still in business? The site looks pretty old, but their modular wheels look wicked.

I am wanting to build the Tamiya 350Z with staggered (the back being a little deeper than the front) rims, but can't find any good rims to start with.

Welcome! This place is certainly a great for learning new modelling skills, the detailed how-tos and the ability to ask manner of questions in an in-progress thread are just a boon for new skills. Most people here can say their models got much better after hanging around here, me inlcuded. Can't wait to see what you got in store for us.
