free flow air intake connection

Please help,
I purchased a k&N filter and adapter for my 318i 1991 e30. I know that I need to remove the filter housing to replace it with this new filter, but I don't understand where the adapter of the new filter attaches to? and what to do with all of those connections (electrical) coming out of the plastic air duct that goes to the engine. thanks
