Where do you find the time to work on your kits???

The title speaks for himself but I'll try to explain to you all:
I work from 08:30 to ... (I have no time to finish)
When I go back home, there is the 8 month old daughter to take care of, the meal to help for preparation, the dishes to wash, all the little works a house need, ...
During week-ends: shopping, gardening, ....
I stopped my modeling club and signed in a new club (only as member) and I thought I could find the time to work on my models. It wasn't true. I still can't find an hour or two to work on my projects.
How do you do? How do you manage your time between modeling and family? Do you leave all the work for your wife? Do you work during the night?
Any feedback will be very appreciated because if the things continue like that I won't do modeling for some years.

I currently work 8:00-5:00 and have household chores to take care of... I don't really get that much time either.. but I have "scheduled" at least 2 hours each week for my own usage... away from my GF, work, what-not... so my suggestion is communticate with ur family and make some room... IMO everyone needs time alone... :2cents:

I work from about 1pm-10pm. I usually get up around 7 or so, so I just work on my kits for a little, then I have to go to work. It's been working pretty well. I've finished about 2 kits this way.

I start work at 7:30, so I get up at 6:00AM and model for an hour before I have to leave. Seems to work ok as the wife and kids are still asleep and dont demand attention.

Unfortunately, not enough time. I have to work about 5-6 days a week from 1:30PM-10:00PM then I get home, watch a little TV, hop on AF and then work on a model if Im motivated.

I have a busy schedule too, so I rarely get to spend long periods of time at the bench. I usually do things in 5-10 minute bursts. Almost never in the morning, and usually at night. I can usually find an hour on the weekend.
I find that it really helps to make a 'list' of the things you want to do. Just pick an item and "do-it". Before you know it, you'll be done!
P.S. My 'completed' shelf is not that large, so perhaps my strategy isn't as good as I think!!

I feel your pain. Counting my commute, I'm out of the house at 6:00am and home again around 7:00pm M-F. Adding in the usual domestic and social obligations doesn't leave a lot of time. A couple things that might help.
1) Lower your expectations. If I can get 15 minutes, I'll take it. I can usually get something done. Progress is progress.
2) If you have a dedicated work area, and can safely leave supplies / tools out, don't put everything away when you are done for the day. It saves time and overcomes inertia, not to set up and put away everytime. Plus, you're more likely to do a little something if your model's staring at you.
3) Try and keep a couple of kits going at different stages in the build process. That way if you have a lot of time, you can work on the complicated stuff. If not, you can do something quick and easy.
4) Go box stock and curbside. If you don't mind not building contest worthy models, you can get a lot more completed in a shorter time.
Hope this helps.

I work a 12-9PM by the time I get home I'm too burnt out to model. I tell myself I will spend time on one of my days off, but then the friends/family thing happens. If I don't get alone time I can't model, no one wants to sit there and watch you model so... yeah, try to aquire some time for yourself. < Easier said than done. :sly:

I model while everyone else sleeps, usually between 11pm - 2am. That's my time to relax, play games, watch movies, model, whatever.

My day starts at 5:30am until 5:00pm, so I spend 15 minutes everyday doing little bits of the kit mostly keeping them box stock. Ocassionally I will get couple hours on the weekend if my wife is gone and all the house hold upkeeping is done, but again it is usually 15 minutes a day right before I go to bed because we both work and are both neat freaks.

I think the do-what-you-can-when-you-can approach is the key. Because it's summertime, I keep a model out on my desk all the time, no homework pushing it aside. But even during the semester, my model gets a corner of the desk, so I always see it. This tends to frustrate my professors, though, when I show up to class dog tired with assignments not done. Oh well. I had expected this summer to be a boon for building, but working 8 or 12 hour days and having to travel to Boston once a month has severely cramped my style, plus some chick that lives up the road keeps making me go eat dinner with her - what a waste of time and money that could be better devoted to models!

I work a combination of shifts that allow me to take my models to work at night and work on them during 3rd shift for a few hours at a time when I feel like it. I actually have not much of an excuse for the lack of finished kits I produce :uhoh: :disappoin :icon16:

Being a student has some pretty big advantages :D I usually got about 15 to 20 hours of school each week. Homework doesn't really interest me so I got plenty of time :D In my summervacation I work from 8 to 5 but when I get home I can do a lot. Being a student isn't that bad

Thanks all for your feedback
I'll mix all your answers and try to find my own way:
'the do-what-you-can-when-you-can approach is the key'
That's what I'll do. I can't plan a time to model so I'll do it when I can.
Thanks Willimo.
I also have a writing desk in my office and I'll keep it open with my tools and parts in. So, when I have the time, I just have to sit on my chair and start modeling. Thanks Cogitator.
Every 3 weeks, I work from 12:00 to 08:00PM, so I'll use the spare time I have in the morning to work on my models instead of watching TV or browsing AF. Thanks Tonio7.
I'll put my huge project on hold for a long time (Teardrops caravan) and start a boxstock model. If I can finish it this way, I'll continue with more complicated projects. Thanks Neverstrikes.
I'll try to make a list of all the little things I can do, so when I find the time I know what to do. Thanks Murray Kish.
And thanks to all the others and forgive me if I forgot names and ideas but I'll seriously use all of your feedbacks.
