96 Taurus with O/D OFF and Service Engine light on!!!

Good afternoon All,
I saw the previous question and answers about how to solve my O/D light from coming on (replace FORWARD CLUTCH CONTROL VALVE RETAINING CLIP) and plan on getting to my mechanic to have it replaced. But my question still remains this: HOW LONG CAN I DRIVE IN THIS CONDITION? WILL THIS DO DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE? SHOULD I NOT DRIVE IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS/SPEEDS/ETC? I ask because I dont have the money for the repair right now and need to wait about a week or two. Also, does the Service Engine light have anything to do with this issue? Do they go hand in hand without seeing any other complications?

SES light is telling you the powertrain control module has seen a fault in the transimmision. Usually this goes hand in hand with overdrive failing and an over rev condition. Everyone i have seen though the overdrive light flashes. Anyone know if they are using a seperate gear for OD or they just use a Tourqe converter clutch lockup to achieve this or if its something totally different?? I really need to get a service manual for one of these.
