I fucked up my Z28 @ 120

This is pretty crazy if anyone is interested. So I was going about a 120 down the freeway and I went to change lanes into the far left lane to pass someone going a lot slower. He decided to change into the fast lane right in front of me (probably just didn't see me coming). Anyway, I swerved to miss him and lost control. The whole car slid across all 4 lanes of traffic and then flew off the freeway about 200 feet through 2 feet deep of shrubs and bushes. The scaryest part was I slid within 4 feet of a light post and then the car finally stopped inches from a tree. 2 of the tires came right off the rims. They had to run a cable from the tow truck to my car to pull me out. 1 of the rims is completely fucked, but I think the rest of the car is ok, besides minor scraches. In good news though, this gave me the excuse to order up my new ZO6 rims (18x10.5 and 17x9.5) and Goodyear super car tires. Hopefully she will handle a little bit better with those.

TO SLOW YOU DOWN FOR GOING TWICE THE SPEED LIMIT

I always thought back roads were better for going fast. Some place where you wont have some person cut you off at 120 mph. if you hit another car that fast you just bought yourself a pine box.... I have seen that happen way to many time. Its no fun using the jaws of life to cut out a corps. Kinda stinks...lol

Well any way it was a osp officer. Thank god he only cought be at 70 and he is a friend lol. Your not the only one that has done stupid stuff..... I bet all of us have done some stupid shit we wish we didnt. I bet you learnd your lesson and your ok thats all that counts... PS let me know how you like the z06 wheels I want them real bad

Actually I am from Chicago, but when I got out of the Coast Guard I was in San Fran, and I just never left. The car I have now is the '99 Z28 in my sig. I just sold the '94 Z28 about 3 weeks ago. Before that I had an '86 Z28. The other Camaro's on the page belong to my buddy.

jeezus man, im gonna be nice, and not give the lecture about driving like that on roads with other people, as im sure ive given it to you before. but i will say im glad your ok, and damn releaved that you missed both the light pole and tree. and yes, even i have done some STUPID shit im not proud of. 100-110, late at night, headlights off, dodging oncoming traffic, in their lanes, few years ago when i had some crazy issues in life and all, definatly dont do that anymore, but i just thought id let ya know, that i lecture cuz of where ive been, not cuz im a goody goody, i learned from my stupidity, hopefully you will learn from this as well.

back roads can be almost as dangerous, little two lane roads with no median, more of a chance of a head on collision; or if you live in a place like i do you have to worry about deer and other critters...

I think 120mph is why they have race tracks and drag strips. I think more people need to be encouraged to go to a track and have some fun there.

This one road course out here has this thing event called king of the hill, that they run before the main events. You just enter and get to drive the crap out of your car on their road course. Its not even much money.

I will post up some pics of the rims in a day when I get my camera back.

...I'm sure we all remember my 150 on the bay birdge conversaion...

I am buying the Hotchkins complete handling package... I'll be damned if I don't top this baby out. Don't worry I will do it when no one is around. I learned my lesson about weaving through traffic at those high speeds.

Wow, its all crazy and amazing, that you didn't hurt your car any worse, or yourself. You said you had some pretty scratched up paint, you got a fresh coat planned I am assuming? I am just wondering becuase that is what I first think of(I do bodywork). If you do get a new coat and those rims, please post some pics for us.

I probably won't get a paint job any time soon, just because I had that $3500 gold paint job on my 94 and I hated worrying about scraching it all the time. The new Zo6 rims willbe here in a few days. I also ordered some bad ass tires off tire rack. the tires alone came to $1200. i will deffinately post pics!

here is the page (again) I usually post pics on if anyone is interested: www.cardomain.com/id/94camaro_z28

yeah, ill support the idea of goin to the track for high speeds, if only the tracks would open their doors, for instance, when i get the new engine and drivetrain in the IROC, i should be running sub 12's at least, maybe faster, so according to track rules, ill have to hack her up, put in a roll cage, and follow all these rules and regs that i know i know are for safty, but i dont want to have to do them. and around here, they dont have the run what ya brung nights. so the guys out here go out to the country where no one drives, and we still block off the roads on both ends, but yeah, we do have to worry about deers and such, but usually theres enough noise to drive em away :)

finally i got some pics... here is the rim that got busted... the tire came almost completely off. i cleaned up the rim for the pic. i also put my 10.5x18 and 9.5x17 rims on the car, so i will post some pics of those and the customizing i had to do to ge them to fit. the rear axle on the car is fucked up too, so I ordered the SLP rear axle assemble with 3.73 gears for $2,400... i can't wait to get that on!

blueturtle, i live in NOVA, but i raced down in norfolk va, wed drive up into maryland, out in the boonies, race, and drive home. and yeah rollcages can look cool, but they add hundreds of pounds of weight to the car, so if you run say, 11.9 and then have to put the car in, youll drop to say a 12.5 (rough guess to illustrate a point, not an exact number)

I know I know... it was stupid.

You darn right! I will not bother to tell you how many camaros I have seen on flatbeds totalled out from the highway. From my racing days I have learned what driving safe is all about. Most people have NO CLUE how dangerous speeding (etc...) is or whether or not they are driving stupid. I know from experience how quickly cars in front of you can hit you if they apply the brakes. I was hit by a drunk and had back surgery thanks to the accident so that is why I chew out bad drivers. That is what you are, A BAD DRIVER! You will get better though I hope. I do not want to see people in the hospital because of accidents. I think drivers training should include hitting a wall at 15 mph or so. Just to give new drivers a taste of impact. Peace out and drive safe.

We've all done stupid stuff but you should consider yourself extremely lucky that you're car is not wasted. I used to live in west Texas and I drove a little 4-banger S10. Well one day I was doing about 70 (the last time I looked anyway) and tried to zip around a van to catch the next exit. The only problem was that this particular exit was one of those loop exits. The part that I didn't know/expect was for it to be covered with gravel!!! All of the sudden I lost control of the truck, hit the guard rail, WENT THROUGH THAT!!, and rolled down a hill that was probably 60-65 feet to the bottom.

Now, if this says anything about the newer vehicles, I walked away from that mess with a cut about 1/4 of an inch on my wrist and sorta like carpet burn on my other hand from the airbad. No broken bones, no whiplash, no impalements, nothing. By the laws of probability, I should be in a box.

The rest of the bad news....
I had let my insurance laspse four days earlier. So, now, I've got quite a mess to clean up. lol!!! So, take these other guys' advise and go to the track. Not as axhilerating but you have a better change of living.
