Timing issue

the guy who owned my car before me put a dist in it but didnt' bother to time it... bastard.

correct me if i'm wrong, but a stock 5.0 needs to be set at 10-12* advanced with the spout out? is there anything else i need to do to time this thing?

If you are unsure about the distributor also check what it's total advance is set to.
