Just this past week-end I blew my vr4 engine, and now the mitsubishi dealership is saing I might want to start looking at a short block for my vr4. If I got a short block would I be runing the same hp range. My current hp is 360hp. I want to be runing in the low 10s or the high 9s in the 1/4? I'm looking for a 6g72TT and just rebuilding it to get at least 600hp out of it. What is the least expensive way to do this?

You only waited like 20 minutes, not everyone on her will be able to help you because your problem is kind of rare and not everyone has a VR4 on here. Your going to have to wait till somone who knows comes along and they're shure to answer, you came to the right place. Ohh and welcome .

lol oh brother, replacing your short block isn't gonna net you 10s or 600 hp. You need to do some research on turbocharged cars. Our factory short blocks are quite strong, you still could do some improvement by adding forged pistons. Only thing the short block consists of are the pistons, rods, crankshaft, bearings, and the block itself. If you want 600 hp, your gonna be investing a lot of money. First off, you will have to get out of the TD04 turbo housing, in other words, you will have to at least install some TD05s or bigger turbos on your car, unless you want to drop in 2 grand for dr650s and some nitrous.
Even then, when you have turbos big enough to support it, you will need lots of parts such as
bigger fuel injectors
bigger fuel pump
intercooler upgrade, and probably even a front mount
LS6 MAFT or ARC2
Boost, EGT, A/F gauge
Datalogger
Upgraded clutch and flywheel
Possibly a better ignition
Bigger heads
Cam regrinds
And there's probably more you'll have to add
Others include, some minor weight reduction
lighter wheels, sticky tires
learning how to drive like a pro
and TONS AND TONS OF TIME TUNING ON THE DYNO
its not an easy task to run 10s on these cars, it takes lots of money and lots of time on the dyno

lol, well, lets just say, i've done my research and my fair share of working on these cars to know what it takes

Buy a Supra and build it.
Are any 3K/Stealth cars sub 10 seconds? Not insinuating or instigating, just curious.

I think there are 4 that have broken into the 10s, all owners of performance shops or heavily affiliated with one. I know some guy on 3si is talking of building a 8 sec 3/s and there are probably a few others who are planning/building for sub-10s, but to my knowledge it has yet to be achieved.

the reason why you dont see many 3/S's in the 10s is cause
#1 aftermarket is very limited and expensive
#2 most people who own a 3/S can't afford to drop 50 grand into the cars like supra owners do

I've got a list of 50 items mostly for the engine, like the valves, valve springs, pistons and rods, cams, and cam gears, underdrive crank pulley kit, 17g turbos and fmic and pipes, and a tt downpipe. how is that sound.

well, if you got 17G turbos and supporting mods, and you can turn the boost to 25 psi or more, and you make one hell of run, you might be able to do it
i'm not 100% sure, but matt ran 10s with his old car, i believe it was powered by dr650rs, but i think the dr650rs might be a little more powerful than the 17gs, but you really cant tell cause dr doesnt release compressor information, but even when he ran 10s, he had to throw in a 75 shot. All i have to say is tune it real well, go to the track, and share your experience
edit: you will have to use nitrous to get into the 10s with 17gs, i believe if you want to run 10s, you will have to get turbos that are not td04s, of course, you could do like td04HLs because they have a much bigger compressor housing. The reason i'm saying this is i went back on 3si and discovered that Chris (IPO) well known 3/S guy, before he went on project SL-T, had a VR-4 with 17g's, and he ran propane and had stage 2 heads and a lot of other mods, and he ran an 11.3 @ 122. With the 17G's, you'll be able to run low 11s, but high 10s is not out of the question, it would just be a whole lot easier to do it by going with turbos that have a bigger compressor wheel and housing.
