random misfire code came upand i replaced the crank angle sensor before clearing first code. now its saying its getting wrong readings from new sensor.but runs fine.i was told code should have been cleared first before putting in new sensor. if i unplug new sensor and clear code then disconnect battery before plugging in new sensor will that turn off light and if not then how ......... i ve been told to buy another sensorand do it like i first explaned

How did you clear the code? From my understanding the only way to really clear codes in 96 and newer is with a scan tool.

well i used a scan tool first and it cleared code for probably 5 min then light came back up checked code again then tried undoing battery with the ame results as before . called dealer with them telling me to clear code then replace sensor. im trying to not have to spend 100 $ on a new sensor when nothings wrong with the one in it but just to get light out

96 is the first year for the vortec and also obdII .You need a scanner to reset the ses.

I cant imagine it makes any difference WHEN you reset the code. When you reset the ECM, the error has to occur again to set SES to on.

i was told the obdll had the specs from the first sensor in memory so the new ensor with the new specs was causing it to throw up the new code and turn on the light due to the specs NOT MATCHING IF THAT MAKES ANY SENSE
