I have a 1979 corvette 350 engine that I want to put in my 1990 gmc truck, other than the obvious with the fuel, are these not the same engine family/block ? thanks beforehand

The blocks are the same family, but there are some detail differences.
The intake manifolds do not interchange. The truck EFI manifold will not fit on the '79 block, so all the EFI stuff will not work. Also the '79 block may lack a port for the knock sensor and some ignition sensors and parts.
If you must use the 'vette engine, retain the carb and ignition. Disconnect the truck electric fuel pump and just use the mechanical one on the block.
That being said, the Vette engine in '79 is nothing special. It might be more worthwhile to sell it and fix the truck engine so you can keep the EFI.

the 79 vette 350 was rated at less hp than the 1990 truck 350, plus it belched emissions like a fat man on a bean diet.

I got a 93 350 that needs rings...
