Please help. Trying to find the belt tensioner for a 1999 ford escort 2.0L zx2. I have the haynes manual and it does not stat where it is also the illustration is wrong.

It does state where it is. It's actually a couple pages back from the 1.9 & 2.0 SPI. It also tells you how to remove it.

I looked at the illustration on page 1-14 and the item it refers to is not there am I looking at the right one, all help is appreciated.

It's not in the "1" section. I do believe it is back in like 4 or 5. Maybe even 6. Look for "changing the timing belt". It should tell you there.

*EDIT* - I will post later today, after I have gotten the chance to glance at my manual. It's at home and I'm at work. Oh, btw - I got a '99 LX 2.0L SPI - although the same manual is used for both engines.

I did talk to another mechanic and I was able to find out that it is in fact a 2.0L Zetec engine. Still no idea where the tensioner is located. Lol

the tensioner pulley is on the right hand side. if you are facing the serpentine belt count the 3 pulleys on the right side..... top is power steering, bottom is a/c and middle is your tensioner pulley... you'll have to take the splash guards and wheel off the front passenger side to get to it...
