If my obd1 shows MAF not functioning does it need to be replaced or could I possibly clean it?

I used a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol. I also read in here or at tccoa that you should reset your EEC afterward, so I did.
If you do it yourself, make sure you do not bend those probes. Supposedly they are very easy to move. You should have pretty steady hands to do it.
Well, your hands dont need to be pretty, I suppose. But make sure they're steady.

I clean mine, when replacing the air filter, with a shot of carb cleaner. That gets the dirt off without having to touch the temperature probes.
If your car is pinging/knocking badly with regular fuel, then you should just replace the sensor with a new one.
My Ford dealer told me that the original MAF sensors had high failure rates.

I got a new one then had a problem later with it.
Thank goodness it was under warranty.
