alright guys i want to buy a new engine but this time instead of doing a full swap i want to build it slowly like buying a short block and building on that and then a head and build on that etc... now one thing im curious about is how do u safely store engine parts like the block, head and anything else ... cuz i know just leaving the block in ur garage is gonna cause mold, humidity and dirt to damage the pistons and any other parts...

Wrap the parts with something clean, like a cloth. The colder the place the better. Check them once in a while to make sure no bugs or mold are around them.

This might get kinda messy, but if you live in a humid area, you need to coat any exposed metal surface with oil/grease to keep the moisture away, or the parts will rust. If you do that, and take a plastic bag, then suck the air out with a shopvac and tie/seal it, keep it off the floor, it should be hard for bugs to get into, and dust/dirt/whatever can't get in as well.

WD-40 the cylinder walls heavily, as well as anything like pistons skirts, bearings, any mating surface on the heads, etc.
