Please Help - Electric Problem

ok guys, this is about the fans again. i have both positive going to the battery, but oops, when i connect the negative battery cable i notice they start to run right away, and the key isnt turned on at all. what can i do here to get the fans to only turn on when the car does? once again i have the fans wired to the battery, grounds for the fans are in the side wall, and theres a ground from that to the negative on the battery, please help!

i was also thinking of running the positive fan wires to something else that starts up when the key is turned but can anyone tell me what wire to look for to do this?

well thats your problem, you have the wires hooked to a non-switched circuit. you need to put something in between the power source and your resistor or they will just turn on and stay on. you could run a manual switch, or could maybe try splicing into the ignition lock on the steering column (dont know how good that would be cause if you do it wrong you might screw up the VATS). apparently there are some people agin this idea but i think your best bet at this point is to run a toggle switch into the cab and be able to turn the fans on and off while youre in the car...

wire it back up the way it's supposed to be and change the fan switch in the passenger side head

you dont need the fans to run all the time, especially on the highway. if you have a low temp thermostat, this could actually create problems. if your temp is too low your ecm might run in open loop.

get a fan switch from summit, part# JET-60600. this will turn the fans on at 200* and shut them off at 185*. thats plenty cool

ok well now ive spliced the two fan wires through a connector to a pink wire that runs into this black box right next to my distributor cap. theres a pink and white wire there and i could only find the right kind of on-off voltage through that pink wire. now after connecting it my fans will turn on with the ignition, but my car will crank and crank and never start. any ideas?

in other words my problem just exploded on me, all i did was try to leech some power and it wont work? eh..

Im pretty sure that the pink with white/blue are GM's ingnition signal wires for the ESC and all the stuff. What are you trying to accomplish here? manuall control over the fans or what?

i try to avoid the distibutor as much as possible for reason as such

those wires are for the coil and a return from the distributer that tells the coil when to fire. you either bumped something loose, or the fan is drawing to much power from the coil to get a spark

well i reconnected that pink wire back to itself and the car still wont start. nothing seems to be out of place, it just wont start. all of this cuz i wanted my fucking fans to start with the ignition. thats hilarious, i did the same thing on my 5.0 and in 20 minutes and it ran fine. im pretty much at a loss of what to do, there goes another $500

i mean im sorry if that wire cant be cut and then rejoined thats poor engineering imho, im sure there are a lot of thing you shouldn't 'disrupt' under the hood but something electrical like that should be a quick fix.

check your fuses. between your coil and the fan, it may have drawn too much current and popped a fuse.

thx, dont mind me im just havin a hissy fit cuz i did somethin stupid. im pretty sure this is the ignition wire, dunno what happened ill check that too and report back.

well i just found a 20 amper near the battery that blew, basically just retraced my steps and put all the wires back in place, i also noticed the white small wire near the pink one was kinda chopped so after all of this i jumped in and she fired right up, thanks for the help. if i cant draw the current from the ignition wire ill hafta just go with a fan switch i guess, but its gotta be somethin that works with the computer, the whole reason i dont want a manual switch is because im a forgetful person.

I Just Installed My Manual Switch Last Week And I Just Got A Switch That Had A Bright Red Light On The Tip, So That Bright Red Light Reminds Me To Shut It Off, And Plus I Really Try To Remember Because If You Leave That Fan On It Will Drain Your Battery In No Time....
