This will be my last bit of engine dress up for a while.
I painted the heat shield red ~ hadn't had one on in 3 years.
I also rewrapped the downpipe. You can see the opening for hte LM1 wideband cut into the heat shield.
Newly powder coated is: RMR intake manifoldr, throttle body, throttle cable bracket, custom K&N filter adapter, turbo inlet pipe and the PCV pipe under my little K&N

Thanks ... not sure which one you are refering to.
I have three K&N air filters.
I have a huge one on my actual intake.
I have one on the end of the PCV.
And I have one on the OEM BPV valve.
I was calling it me "K&N Triple Threat"

I've never seen that done before, especially on an mr2... what kind of hp gains or advantages did you notice after adding the 2 extra little K&Ns?
Interesting...
Interesting...

The one on the PCV, does not directly add any real "power" ... it just stops dirty air from the engine from being circulated back into the intake.
The one on the BPV offers absolutely no benefit other than it allows the OEM to make the "cool BOV noise". You can ONLY do this mod if you have a VPC or EMS .... something that gets rid of the AFM.

So Jeff, if i drove my MKII out to your place, how much for an engine detail?
JekylandHyde
07-22-2004, 03:19 PM
lol ... my engine bay is actually dirty as hell.
That all looks clean because it is all new powder coating, fresh spray paint, new hoses and new T-bolt clamps.
Everything else is still very dirty :D

Ill take that as a "Do it your own damned self"
I dont know much about detailing, how does one go about powder coating?

I simply removed the parts and took them to a metal finisher that does the actual powder coating.

P/S was an option on MKIIs.
Jekyl did not have it and I had it removed from Hyde.
The red MK1 is a Texas car originally, no rust, bad engine, $650 ... got an engine for $175. It should be on the road soon.

J&H, how can i obtain a intake that connects to the BPV? is it easy? what are the requirements to do so? and is there any draw backs of taking out the AFM?

*cough* 11.7 :D
... and after this weekend at NOPI @ Maple Grove, it should be significantly faster. Hyde gotsta 44 more rwhp ;)

You can only get rid of the AFM with the HKS VPC (what I have) OR an EMS (engine management system).
The HKS VPC is no longer avialable ... only on the used market.

hey jeff, where'd you get the border hood? how much and would you recommend them? i'm trying to find places to get and fit a trd 2000 gt kit too, but thats gotta be local.
JekylandHyde
08-03-2004, 03:48 PM
I bought it used.
The hood came from originally from madpsi.net.
My hood had some fitment issues, it is my understanding that they have resolved that in their current hoods.

Hey Jeff i can't tell if you still have the charcoal canister in place... if not, how do you get rid of it?
JekylandHyde
05-09-2005, 09:00 PM
Wow .. holy old thread :)
I just recently removed the charcoal canister.
I just took it out and corked the lines to the intake manifold. :D

HAHA YEAH SORRY... just remembered it was a good spot to see some engine bay pics and knew the owner! i'm trying to work out how much crap i can get rid of if i do an engine swap, the less in the bay the better... and simpler! thinkin of going to the gen IV caldina engine and maybe putting the dual beams head on later.
oh yeah... someone said if you remove the cansiter you have to do something bout venting the fuel tank.. did you worry bout it?

Thanks MR2 envy :)
TRD2000, I have not done it yet, but you basically just connect the lines that would go in one end and out the other of the charcoal canister (fuel vapor lines). The vac lines from the intake manifold you just cap.
Right now mine is vented to the atmosphere so my car is a little smelly right now and I am killing the environment.
Why do I say that lightly?
1. I am not driving the car except at races.
2. When I am driving I am using 110 octane leaded fuel, so I am already killing us :D

hmm any way to get around the smelly thing for a road car? like if you connect the hoses where do the fumes go to? or is this really a necessary part on a road car?
JekylandHyde
05-10-2005, 03:24 PM
If you connect the hoses together, that go into and out of the canister, I believe the smell goes back into the gas tank.
However! ... you should then drill a hole in the gas cap to vent fumes out. They have to go somewhere ... either way, I think you will have a slight gassy smell.

Where did you get that piece to hold your intake in place ? i need to find some way to keep my damn intake from moving around!
JekylandHyde

The shop that made my roll bar made that piece for me ... they also made my battery stay.
