Seriously. they just came with TCS, and they just made 500 hp from an 8.0 v10! that's really shitty. There over priced, underpowered and imho is one of the worst sports car ever dreamt up. People pick on mustangs being the worst american car, Look at the viper....

Ever thought of the mayhem that would occur if Dodge let loose the full power of the V10?? The power is low for a reason.

How can a car that goes 190mph top speed and goes to 100mph in under 13 seconds be under powered? I agree the V10 isn't putting out much HP for its size though.
hp per liter (rounded):
Viper V10- 61
Mustang GT- 56.5
Mustang V6- 50
Mustang Mach 1- 67.4
Mustang Cobra- 84 sumthing, I forget. Of course its s'charged.

Quick, what's a Viper V10 weigh?
Now compare its horsepower to its weight instead of its HP per Liter. There's a realistic comparison instead of HP per Liter.
HP per Liter is an import imagined performance figure that's really just an efficiency report. By Per Liter standards, Abarth tuned Fiat 500's should be some of the most incredible cars in the world.
Seriously, if the engine makes enough power to overcome its added weight to the chassis, it's a good engine.

Hey seriously, Viper has earned its spotlight, after all, it had coined its own action TV series.
Ever thought of the mayhem that would occur if Dodge let loose the full power of the V10?? The power is low for a reason.
They'd beat those V8 and V10 Ferrari and Lambos on regular basis? :D

Yes they could have accomplished the same with a v8 but they also could have done it with an i6... But it wouldnt last too long would it?

Hehe, no. The Viper V-10 was designed in house by Chrysler. Chrysler did, at one point, own Lamborghini.

Don't ever put Viper and Ford GT in the same sentence! hehe. The Ford GT is a re-make of a fucking legend. One of the most famous cars of all time (GT40). (plus ford has the best sounding v8 engines hands down) Why'd they use the truck engine? Mainly for its amazing torque power band range. Like in the new F-150 you get 80% of your torque during the first 1000 RPM. This feature carry’s over in the Ford GT, having an AMAZING torque power band range! Its is really unbelievable.
But yes, the Cammer is a marvelous engine Fordjunky, but do not worry, Ford is using the 5.0 crate cammer engine in its upcoming 2005 Mustang GT-R.
A lovely 440HP at 7000rpm will be its stock numbers for the 302.
I'd also have to disagree with the remark of engine efficiency being a bad judgment. When a 4-banger 2.0 Litre beats out a whopping v8 you gota ask yourself a few questions?
Engine efficiency is a huge factor in power. Not only can you get more power out of less weight, but also better fuel economy. There are 2 reasons why dodge likes to use big ass engines with not so big ass power.
Reason #1
GREAT SELLING POINT. (Introducing the 5.9 litre Dodge truck!!!) Those numbers hit you, make you think, whoa shit, power!
Reason #2 Big engines with lower horse power out put usually have greater after-market capacities. Since compression ratio is alot smaller, all ya gota do is slap on a supercharge with full blown 20psi and change a few internals, and your laughing your ass off.
Regardless, the main reason is the sell point. I also wouldn't be mocking the ricers "efficiency" either. My buddy and I got our doors blown off in our supercharged Camaro when a Turbo Charged RSX type S spanked it to us bad.
funny shit.

In my opinion the viper is gay. Don't get me wrong, i love the stylin, and all, but nobody needs a v-10, a v-8 is all the world will ever need, the reson that the worm has a v-10 is so that idiots think... HEY its got a v-10, 10 is higher than 8, so a v-10 is better than a v-8, vipers are rice.

"higher the engine," more stress and abuse it can take. otherwise, Ferrari would've stuck a V6 in one of their carbon fiber mongrels to lessen the weight. wonder why V8s, V10s, and V12s from the inception of racing age (LeMans, muscle era) are still around?

All im sayin is that IN MY OPINION a v-10 is overkill.
Top Fuel seems to do good with v-8's
So do trucks like the black stallion.
Back in the late 60's, and early 70's the big three had some of the quickest factory cars ever made, 427 cobra, yenko 427 nova, 68 dodge hemi dart, 454 chevelle's, and so on.(oh, and yes i am aware that there are probably quicker cars now-n-days, but alll i really know is older cars) I got a bit carried away when i said world, i mean that for what they are doing with the viper there is no need for a v-10, it is a selling point. Also yes (correct me if im wrong, im not really into f-1 that much) F-1 uses v-10's, but don't some of them run v-8s, and the v-8's seem to keep up with v-10's. Don't get me wrong, i am a firm beliver in the "No replacement for displacement", but some of these v-10's have less displacement than a 350, if v-10s float ur boat, fine by me, didn't say that there was anything wrong with that. These are just my opinions. :2cents:
Oh, btw just cause im new to this message board don't make me new to cars, just thought i'd clear that up.

I believe 1994 was the last year a V8 won the F1 champoinship, and 1995 was the last year a V8 was even marginally competitive in F1. All the current F1 cars are 3.0L V10's, and the more powerful engines are above 800 HP. With the materials available in the mid-90's, the V10 proved to be the best combination of reduction of rotating mass when compared to engine drag. With current low friction coatings and materials, a V12 may be better, but a few years ago v12's were made illegal.
BMW is going to be putting a V10 in the new M5 as well, though this is largely for marketing purposes.

Actually it was for emissions purposes. It's a lot easier to get the Ferrari V8 (first introduced in the mid 70's in the 308GT4) to pass emissions than it is to get a V6 developed in 1959 to pass them.
The Dino 246GT and the Stratos were the only two road cars ever to use the engine.

v10 isnt overkill, a lazy 8litre engine is..... put it this way, stupidity like VTEC comparisons aside because nothing happens until 6000rpm... take the 350Z engine the VQ35DE... 2 of those would equal 560+hp, and only be 7 litres and probably a nicer drive.... the number of cylinders dont matter, its that they slammed a huge displacement engine in and detuned it like crazy.... a 6litre V10 would be nicer to drive and lighter.... the viper would be a way better car without that engine.... way better car

Except that the Viper IS the car that it is because of that engine.
We fast forget that the Viper isn't supposed to be a sports car like a Modena, a Corvette, or a 911. The Viper, when pen was put to paper in 1989, was supposed to be the reincarnation of the original Shelby 427 Cobra. It was supposed to be the most visceral overkill driving experience you could buy for the money.
No automatic transmission offered. No ABS. No traction control alongside enough engine to light up the huge rear wheels in every gear. Barking loud sidepipes and no worthwhile sound deadening. No roll-up windows, nothing you wouldn't need.
The Viper delivered handily in 1993, becoming the halo car for not only Dodge, but the entiriety of American auto manufacturing throughout the 90's. While Vette had turned tourer to chase the Europeans, here was a car that was brassy, bold, and unapologetic. It was rude and obscene, an upraised middle finger to every automotive convention adopted since 1973. In other words, the Viper was the first uniquely American car produced since the downfall of the muscle car.
Viper is the way it is for much more than just the reason of going fast, Viper is the way it is to make a statement. The statement has been dulled along the way (roll up windows in '96, rear exit exhaust in '98, ABS in 2000) but the Viper will always be the Viper.

I actually have to go back to the argument over cylinders. Wouldn't some people, especially the anti-agriculture people who forget where their burgers come from, argue that a V-8 was too much? A V-6 should be good enough? Or maybe even just a four banger? It's all personal preference. If I had the money for a Viper I'd have one with twin turbos.

Now I don't hate the Viper but I'd rather have other things, like the new Shelby Cobra that should be coming out soon. I agree though that the Viper has poor performance stats for the price. Also, big engines are no longer needed in today's world. The new Porshe 911 is a 3.6 with 460 HP and Ford showed its small 4.6 can run with the best of them. Don't get me wrong, I love american muscle and I like what dodge did trying to bring it back, but large displacement engines aren't needed anymore. It won't be long when engines under 4.0L will be so technologically engineered that they'll stomp big v10s. Jap cars arent there yet but if you look at their motorcycles they are very advanced. A 0.6L bike engine with 120 HP that can rev up to 19,000 rpm is a big engineering acomplishment in my book. Soon this kind of stuff will be seen in their cars. This is just my opinion about this whole matter. I think that america should get with the program if they want to compete with today's newer, more advanced engines.
