91 z28 Fan Problem

Ok, both electric fans on my Z aren't working. I don't think two motors would go out. Checked the fuses, they're fine. Trying to locate a diagram of the fan relay as I don't know what it looks like. Also think it might be the coolant temperature sensor, but I don't know where that's located either. Any help guys?

The coolant temp sensor is located under the throttle body in the intake manifold. Mines green and is just to the left of the thermostat.

well, it's one of 4 things: the fans are bad, but i'm with you, i dont think both fans would burn up at the same time. a bad fan relay, which is on the firewall next to the brake booster, their will be a 2 that look identicle, you can switch them and see if the fans come on. a bad temp sensor, which is in the passenger side head towards the back and i'd bet that's your problem. or you have air in your cooling system

dober that temp sensor in your manifold is NOT for the fan.

well i read a past posting about a similar problem and the one guy says to unplug the temp sensor, turn the key on, and ground the wire. if the fans would come on by doing that im guessing i could just permanently ground the wire right? if it only comes on when i turn the key then my fans should run all the time? thats something ive been trying to figure out for a long time, because unlike 99% of everyone else i dont simply want a switch or a lower turn on temp if i could have them run all the time i would.

im also wondering, if the fans are running all the time is that bad for the motors? i mean of course its more wear but would a good fan go bad fairly quickly? what about the power required too, is it going to drain my battery? thanks for the help

ya, by grounding that wire your fans will come on whenever the key is turned on. if they dont, then you have a bad relay or bad fan motors. by doing this, you wont really hurt the motors, but you will probly shorten their life a little.

turn on your AC and see if the fan(s) come on. if they do, then you have a bad fan switch(temp sensor) just spend the extra $10-15 and get a new fan switch

its not the money that has anything to do with it, theres just a difference between having the fans come on at certain temps, and having them on all the time. it seems that noone understands that, if the fans are running it must keep the engine cooler than if they switch on. i will never put a manual switch on my car, i think anyone who has to turn their fans on and off every time they start up the car is an idiot, im sorry but give me a break thats just ridiculous. i have been looking at some of the switches that work with the computer so i really dont know yet what im gonna do but thanks.
