2002 SERCA Convention Update!!!
JustinP10
01-31-2002, 12:07 AM
Online registration will end on 2-22-02. If you decide you still want to
register for the event, contact Justin McClanahan (mcclanah@u.arizona.edu)
to arrange registration and payment.
We're coming down to the wire here.. We're right at 36 days til the
convention, and we've only received 59 sign ups for the convention.
Out of those 59 only 37 have signed up for the hot lapping sessions.
At this point we're going to start advertising the hot lapping event (and
the other events) to other groups (clubsi, focus group, M3 guys, etc).
We're planning on limiting the track event to 80-90 cars. So as soon as it
fills up, it fills up regardless of what type of car.
As it is right now SERCA will lose money on the track event, and that wont
happen. So, if you're thinking about running I would highly suggest you
sign up soon, to guarantee a spot on the track
Registration for the Nissan Testing Grounds tour will be closing on 2-15-02.
There are alot of logistics involved and we can't leave that registration
open til the convention date.
If, you decided to wait and register AFTER (2-15-02) the fee is going to go
up by 10%.
Payments are due by NO LATER than 2-22-02!
We're not trying to be unreasonable here, but there is ALOT of money on the
line for these events and we need to get the people that are serious about
it, to sign up.
To register, goto:
http://www.serca.org/convention/
And click on "click here to register"
If you have any questions, please contact Justin McClanahan
(mcclanah@u.arizona.edu) or myself Kyle at kyle93ser@yahoo.com.
Lastly, we have a great stack of products for the raffle!! It's incredible
how generous our vendors are, in donating these items to our raffle!
The organizers of the 2002 Convention would like to thank all of those that
have signed up and paid already.
Happy Motoring.

Folks, if you are even somewhat reasonably nearby, this is an event worth going to. It's going to be a blast. This should be the best convention ever.
Do not think it is just for people with SE-Rs. The convention is for folks with any car powered by the SR20 or any Sentra powered by the QR25. The G20 has become a very respected car within the SR20/SE-R community. We all know it's more sports sedan than entry level luxury car.
So come out and meet a lot of good folks including Mike Kojima and Rob Cadle. Sign up for the track events. We will have instructors available so you won't have to feel lost on the track. We will be having a track seminar on Friday night so folks can get some knowledge of what to do out there. It's fun. Do it. This will probably be your best opportunity to do your first Driver Education event (DE).
Sign up soon. I have to as well (work has been a bear for the last month - that's why I've been rather quiet here lately). Oh yeah, and if it's too far to drive, you can always fly. Lots of people fly to the convention now and it doesn't stop them from participating in the DE event either.

Like George said if you're with in even a days drive go. There are plenty of caravans from all over the country that you could drive with.
If I wasn't moving this year I'd be flying down there. Well there's always next year. :D

OH yeah.. I forgot to mention it, but someone saw a P12 driving around Phoenix a couple days ago. Had the Primera badge still on it he said. So that may be down there too? Last time they came to a car show with their cars they brought two skylines, a S15 silvia, altima (before they were relased), a 4dr longbed s/c frontier (i think that's what it was), and a Sunny VZ-R.

General area would be Phoenix. More specifically.... The hotel where everyone is staying is at Rural Rd.and the US60 freeway. The track event is held at Firebird International Raceway. That is located off of I-10 and Maricopa Rd. I believe that would be Tempe and Chandler respectivly. You can find the rest of the information here. www.serca.org/convention
Hopefully this helps...

WUSS!!
I drove from Houston to LA for the first SE-R convention. I would have for the second, but my mother was dying. I organized the third one which was held in Dallas (and we had someone drive in from WA). I drove to last year's convention in DC and again someone drove from WA (and even drove in the track event). I'll probably fly this year to conserve a little vacation time.
So if it's too far, just fly. :D

Check your calendar... that's probably a spring break weekend!!!! :D It is here in Az and a couple other placed that we checked.
Just do it! You know you want to.... Also, if you are not on the SoCal SERCA yahoo group list i'd suggest you join, and talk to them about it. I know there are going to be a lot of people caravaning out here from all over California, maybe you could ride with someone you know that's going, or meet up and drive up in a group (makes it much more interesting, especially with walkie talkies- motorola talkabouts:))
I drove to Dallas two years ago, from Phoenix. Was it a long drive.. Yes. Was it worth it.. Yes. Would I do it again? Yes. :D

I cant make it because my time off schedule has been alotted to other commitments. I definately wish I could go. I love Arizona and the cross country drive.
The only time I've driven cross country was in an SR20 ...long before I owned one! I had a GTI back then. ;)
Next year I will attend no matter where it is.

I think they are planning on Kansas City right now. I'll probably hit up the next one in Cali! KC is a far drive from Vancouver. :D

Well, as of right now we have a little under 100 completed registrations. And there is still some time left before the Convention to register, and I'm sure there will even be people there that didn't register. Looks to be a pretty good turnout this year. Don't know how that really compares to past years though, as I don't know what their registration numbers were like prior to the Convention?

Oh but of course.
The California and Arizona folks should definitely go. Hell, last year we had two people drive across the country to attend. We had someone from Washington state in Y2K.
Don't be a wuss folks, make sure you sign up and go.

To those of you attending...
We are in need of volunteer corner workers during the track event on Saturday during the Convention. Anyone who is interested please e-mail me and let me know you are interested in helping out. If you are running on the track, we can work around that by rotating shifts, so that everyone will switch off and you'll still get top run during your assigned track time.
Thank you,
Justin McClanahan
Edit: My e-mail is McClanah@U.Arizona.edu Thanks!

Do you want to go, and run on the track? The prices have gone up, since the registration closed, but if you are, i can look at all the numbers again, and see if we have more room in any of the run groups. How much prior track experience do you have with your G on the track?

Actually, I'd be going for the Nissan Testing facility tour. Hmmm...If the tour starts at 1pm, I can leave Los Angeles at 5AM and get there with some time to spare. :D Is it at all possible and what would the fee be? :) I'll be by myself. I'll hang out for the track events but just as a spectator. Let me know so I can become sick for work...:flash:

The Nissan Test Center tour registration is actually closed. We had to send a copy of the attendees to Nissan in order to get access to tour the facilities. The security there is VERY tight. There may be an opening that I'm unaware of, talk to Eric Tucker about it. his aim is deltstud and his e-mail is eric_22_t@hotmail.com
The only event that would cost money to attend is the BBQ. It is being catered by El Paso BBQ (local restaurant), and the cost is $20 per adult.
Let me know if you are still interested.

I'm not sure the official style of the restaurant, it's more of a western style, than a southern style restaurant. All i know is they have some VERY good ribs :D too bad they are sorta expenisve and i'm a poor college student. I can't wait to get some good food at the Convention, it'll be the first real food I've had in a while. :D
