Smaller Gas Tank 1999 Rodeo

This probably relates to the fuel sender threads, but here is my issue. I used to get 300-320 miles to a tank. Now I'm lucky to get 220. When it is on empty it takes me 10-12 gallons to fill up, so I am still getting 18 mpg or so. Either my tank has gotten smaller, won't accept gas, or there is a problem with the sender/gague. Anyone have any ideas? Did the recall on the sender ever go through? About how much should they charge me to replace the sender if it is the problem?

Definitely sounds like a fuel sender, but I'm bettin you still have just less half a tank when you're filling up.

Mine, a 97, had this issue in 98-99, found it became a big problem after running the truck real low on gas a few times. They replaced the fuel sender, under warranty, ever since I'm VERY reluctant to let it get below 1/4 tank.

The 2 times I have, in the last, 5-6yrs, sure enough, the gauge acts goofy. Course it was during the coldest months of the year, too. Now I always keep her above 1/2 tank, haven't had gauge issues in a long time.

I do have, though, and I don't know if other's have this problem - but I have to fill the truck on the lowest setting, if I fill it too fast, it will spit up, like a child overfed :uhoh: :nono: This has been an issue for 7yrs now.

I have a 2000 Rodeo with the same problem. WIll it hurt to drive the vehicle with the sending unit acting up? It is an inconvenience, but it is a lease that is up in a few months and I sure don't want to put any money into it. Advice?

It wont hurt anything. The worst thing that could happen is you run out of gas because you have no idea how much you have in the tank.
