Radiator hose ripping open

Hey I used to drive a 96 integra, and now its my dads. Well a little bit ago he called me and said he was driving and he heard a big pop, and then his car started overheating. I told him to check his radiator hose to see if maybe for some reason it came loose. So he looked ,and it was ripped open all the way down it. Anyways i drove out there, we went to autozone and bought a new hose and fixed it. But what would cause so much pressure for that thing to just rip open?

it could just be a defect in the hose, or it could be that the car was overheating to begin with and was causing the hose to expand and pop. ever leave the water hose on all the time? if you have a cheap hose the pressure will build on it cause it to eventually leak and the pop. tell him to keep an eye on the temp for a bit.
