How many on you have taken your car to the track? I am scheduled to run at Infineon Raceway next month for the first time and would like a few tips from fellow track runners. I here these cars eat breaks. Have you noticed that?
What else to watch?
Thanks.

I don't know what trim model I have, I've had the car one week and bought it strictly to take to the track.

ES is a stealth trim, it's vr4, SL, and base for 3kgts.
You mentioned road track...is it a track or is it a road/autocross type track. Our cars won't perform that great in an autocross event due to weight, and average handling at low speeds. But on straight tracks, it is fun as hell. I've run the 1/4 a few times, what advice are you looking for?

OK, wasn't sure what was meant by Trim package. Yes, it's a 92 VR4.
The track is a road/autocross type. I thought this car was designed for road rally racing? The track is paved but with 4-wheel drive and steering, I thought this car would perform well. So I should have gotten a Supra instead? I'm not into straight line racing, but would also be fun.
I was just looking for general insights on the car's handling and performance in such events.

For autox your going to want to have a smaller lighter car like a lowered Sti or Evo, the weight will realy hurt the VR-4 in the turns, our car is great for high speed but it can never reach those speeds when it is limited to 50mph in an autox event!

i'm gonna tell you to go try it out. it is heavy but with the right mods i think this car will perform nice, and i always have believed this.
try it out, if you don't do so good. come back to the board and we can talk about modifications like weight reduction and better brakes and better tires.
in road racing it has soooo much to do with the driver, even more than drag racing i'm sure.
again i say go try it out, because personally i like the feel of the car. but no its not a rally car. but it is a performance car.

I agree, I always thought they were beasts on road courses...given the AWS. Why have that if it's not designed for steering...ex...straight line performer. But I understand about the extra weight, but at least all that weight isn't relying on two wheels to hold traction under acceleration. My :2cents:

The AWS is designed for high speed strait line driving. Its same faze, so the rear wheels turn the same as the front. Quick lane chages above 100 are pretty smooth, just remember that its only 1.5 degrees of turning, so it only helps a little.

Altho...i think it would be better (sometimes) to have a little more weight going in to turns. I mean the weight keeps you down alittle better...but on the other hand. I can understand how it can hurt to have that extra weight.

No more weight doesn't "hold you down". It's worse, more momentum...your thinking of (better) weight distribution, like pick-ups with stuff in the bed in snow and all.

True true, weight is the enemy in turns, downforce is good but realy can't be harnesed well at turning speeds so thats out too.

5point...you have a point. Its sorta like trying to stop a 500 pound rock rolling down a hill compard to a 250 pound rock. So much momentum its hard going in to the turn. I never did think about it that way...but i do know one thing...at 150 mph i would want to be in a 3800 pound car then a 2800. It would feel better to me IMO. I would feel safer. You may lose some speed but still.

HELL NO, not me! I would want to be in a 2800 lb car which can stop hundreds of times better and dodge obstacles. Going 150 in 3800 lb car, wont turn for s**t...hence AWS :evillol:

nah, our cars turn very sharp, very sharp and nice

I'm basing my opinion on what it would feel like taking a turn at 100+ in a 2800 lbs. Then, get out and do the same in the 3800 lb car... Same shocks and tires...etc. And it's prolly sharp and crisp from the AWS. I don't know, I only driven a F/F R/T before and it was pretty bad...but never a VR4 or R/T TT, plenty of rides though! :smokin:
EDIT: Saw your mods....not too extensive...more on the lines of what I want...how do you do against F-Body's? The mean ones... :evillol:

A little sauce on the side?? How about modded ones...? I'm sure you jump away but do they eventually pull back up, or you just keep pulling...you got the AWD, but have like an extra 400 lbs right? How about highway races?

well actually from my experience. i will eat them off the line of course but second gear they can make some gain, 3rd gear i pull out the fork and 4th gear i start eating
now i'm not talking about corvettes and 03 cobra's
but the Z28 and maro ss and trans am(never raced a ws6) yeah i pretty much walk those guys.

Road Course and AutoX are very different.
In stock for a 3S on a AutoX track will be on the slower side. The weight is a facrot in taking the many tight turns. It won't be bad it will just be on the slower side.
On a Road Course the cars handle themselves nicly. Braking in very important we are heavy ;). At the NG THeir were a few porches and a viper running with us and the 3S'es were right in their with them. If you serious about running RC's upgrade your brakes and take extra fluid(the good stuff too) with you and you WILL boil the fuid by the time your done with your set.

Duh... I mean equal mods. You can't compare really because you can't throw a boost controller on a SS...and if it's got one you will lose. I meant it in the way as out of the two cars, equally modded, which takes kinder to the mods.

we respond to mods very good up to a certain point. but nothing really takes mods better than american muscle.
i would say it would be a nice race to see, a modded vr4 vs a modded maro ss.

I have seen a race just like it but the 3000gt won...dunno about the extent of their mods though. And also I'm sure it's alot "easier" to launch an AWD car compared to RWD, speaking for unfimiliar RWD drivers.
