98GT steering wheel volume control

So I get in my car this morning to head to work, and as I am pulling out, all of a sudden the volume in the car shoots up to ear drum blowing levels. Turns out that the button on my steering wheel that controls the increase of volume no longer "clicks" like it did, and it randomly cranks up the tunes on it's own. The down portion still works.

Is there anything I can do myself without having to take it in?

Any help is appreciated.

pull your stereo out and look at the wiring harness, there will be either a green or blue wire or both, if you cut one of those the steering wheel controls will be disabled.

Replace the volume control module on your steering wheel. This happened to my brother's Bonneville, replaced it and works fine. I won a set on e-bay for 40.00 bucks or you can check a auto junk/salvage yard.

I just replaced two of those swithes in my 98 gt. If you know anyone who knows how to solder or if you can, you can take the one out from the MUTE button and put it where the bad volume button is . be very carefull not to melt the switch when doing so. I personally found a switch that was close in size and modified the control slightly. I also replaced the lights that were burned out.
