Harmful wheel sizes?

I was told somewhere that any wheel size over a 15-inch puts extra stress on our fragile engines, and gets to be downright dangerous around 17-inch wheels and up. I was just wondering if anyone knew the facts or truths to this statement?

yeh, the fact is, thats bs. hehehe. :D just match circumference and don go too wild on the width. if the weight is the same or lighter, even better.
id suspect the bearings would go bad, or some suspension component, but not the motor. no worries for a 17x7 wheel.

Well considering that our cars can tow up to 1000lbs I don't think some bigger wheels are going to hurt anything. Except maybe your wallet. :D

Yeah, and actually if you get 17x7 with 205/40 or so the total circumference with wheel/tire is a tad less than the total of stock wheel/tire.

Fragile engines? :hehe: 17-inch rims downright dangerous?:hehehe:
Whoever told you those things obviously isn't on the G20.net forum. Once you start looking under the engine section and see all the mods done to various cars you'll see how "fragile" the SR20DE is. ;)

My bad - I meant to say that I was told that the transmissions were fragile, and the bigger wheels put stress on the tranny...sorry. And actually, it was a guy at SR20 Development that told me this...

again, if the rotational weight and circumference is the same, the car will not be able to tell a difference. just dont go wild on the width

Nothing to worry about. The drivetrain can handle the 17's. When you put them on post some pics. (BTW, they damn well better be some nice-a$$ rims, or else. :D :p :D )

Well they are supposed to be on the ball over there, so if you can find out 'why' they think it will stress the tranny, then I'd like to know.
