Manual transmission question?

I have a 99 chevy s-10 , 2 wheel drive, 5 speed.

when i step on the clutch and then try and put it into reverse it has a very hard time gettting into gear. It sounds like the gears are grinding. When i finally get on the road it is very hard to get it in all the gears. I also noticed that the clutch pedal is getting easier to push in.

A couple of questions.

1) is this normally due to low clutch fluid? If so could somebody explain to me the steps to check and refill the fluid?

2) if this is not #1 then what kind of problem could it be?

Thanks for the help

is your clutch just easier to push down or is it also staying lower that originally? Your clutch fluid sylander should be right on the firewall on the drivers side

The clutch is just easier to push down. I removed the filler plug yesterday and noticed that there was no fluid in there. I filled it up with brake fluid but it was still hard to get it into gear this morning. im thinking there is a leak somewhere but unsure how to find it.

Thanks for replying to my message. I hardly know anything about cars so i appreciate the help.

being your truck is a '99 it shouldnt be these but they're are the only things i can think of there is your master cylinder and slave cylinder in the front and then there is your pressure plate in your tranny. exactly where the cyinders are i dont know. Other than that im as lost as you are on this.

the clutch fluid cylinder is to the right of the master cylinder for the brakes it's small and round. if you have had a new clutch put in the slave cylinder may have to be bleed or is leaking if the clutch hasn't been replaced then it may be time for a new one
