ok, i have this 1995 grand prix, SE. it only has 55,000 miles on it, and lately it has been running very hot. Whenever I drive on the highway, it stays just below the 210* degree mark. And whenever im at a stoplight, in idle, it goes up to 220* degrees. I changed the thermostat out, thinking it was bad. unless i got a new, broken thermostat, it didnt help. so then after that i went to check the radiator and added more fluid to it and it still hasnt gone down. i looked at my cooling fans, and only one of them works, but when the car goes up to 220* degrees, then the 2nd one kicks on, but only for a little bit and the temperature stays at 220*. AND now lately, whenevr i acclerate, the car starts to shake softly and sounds like it wants to die! I dont know what else to do! :banghead:
PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO I WANT MY CAR BACK TO NORMAL!! AND I DONT HAVE MUCH $$ LEFT TO SPEND! THANK YOU

THANK YOU----------------------------------------Well for 20$ you could change out the waterpump and try the coolant temp sensor.I noticed the most difference in my 95 with the waterpump. Also flush out the system .As far as the stumbling it could be a number of things.Does your ses light come on ?? If so take it to a autozone to get the codes read .If no codes then try fuel filter and or pump.If the car sat alot there could be sediment getting pulled into the fuel system causing eratic idle. Also pull out the idle air control and spray the carbon off the needle tip with carb cleaner. And try replacing the pvc valve..These parts are fairly cheap and if you plan on keeping the car it wont hurt to replace them..Good luck

or you could just spend a quick 10 bucks on a relay, and see what happens from there.

has your car ever overheated before??? if so, you may have a blown head gasket. Also, did you bleed the air out of the cooling system after replacing your t-stat??? If not, you may have a pocket of air trapped in the system causing your overheating problem. GM 3.1's in w-bodies are famous for this, and if the air wasn't propery bled from the cooling system, or if a head gasket leak allows air in the system, it will cause the symptoms you describe. One last thing, the coolant temp sensor controls when your fans kick on, so if it's out of range, your fans won't kick on soon enough. Remove the CTS and see if it has a lot of crud and deposits on it, if so, replace it and see what happens.
