'96 LT1 Service Engine Soon light

My "Service Engine Soon" light was on, so I ran the codes and replaced the secondary air intake valve as indicated. The new valve is working perfectly, and I can't find any other reason that it should be on. Is there a way to reset the light, or is there something else I should check for first?

did you try disconnecting the battery

Yep. I actually just replaced the battery and the posts due to corrosion. I also checked the fuse.

well the thing about the SES light is that there are always different sensors on the same circuit. so if a sensor that is on the oxygen sensor goes bad, then the computer will throw an O2 code, when in actuallity its some other sensor. what you have to do is somehow figure out what other sensors might be on that circuit and see which ones are causing the code throw...

I had a 96 LT1 TransAm with the same problem. I thought I was going to shell out some bucks for the O2 sensors but a friend told me to buy some spray carb cleaner and clean the MAF sensor and it worked! Light went out and I only spent $3.

You have probably solved the problem by now but the answer is in the fuel cap OR fuel quality. Be certain the fuel cap is turned for at least 6 clicks and the service engine soon light should go out withing about 50 miles. If it doesn't, there is a deeper problem. THis has worked for me every time. Good luck!
