Could somebody tell me how a water intercooler works? or a link to a site that explains it in full detail?

Same way a air to air intercooler works, except that instead of using air rushing through the IC to cool the charge (boost) air inside, it uses cold water.

The advantage is you can fill it with ice water and cool the intake charge to below ambient air temp, and you can use them when a regular front mount isnt a decent option because of packaging reasons. You also get shorter intercooler piping.

The drawback is that most liquids weight at least 8 pounds per gallon, so it tends to be heavy. And unless it has a heat exchanger at the front of the car (a small water to air intercooler that dumps the heat from the water back to the air, like on the Civic Si Vortech SC kits), it will eventually become heatsoaked and efficiency goes in the terlit.

Thats the better part of what air to liquid ICs are all about...

My idea has always been, repipe your AC pipes to cool the water. That should drop the temps wayyyyyyyyyy down.

Flaco Racing I believe did that with one 798 rwhp Rx7 many years ago... Some poeple argue that having to drive the AC compressor will rob HP, but I firmly believe the substantial amounts of power you would gain from it would easily result in a net gain. And at 800 whp, I would think it works or they wouldnt bother with it ;)
