i live in canton, ohio and near us is the place where you can bring your car to the 1/4 mile track and drag it for like 10 bucks!! i have a thrasher CAI, dynomax exhaust and u-bend replacement.....are there any tips that i need so i can get the best time...

1) i'm already gonna take out my spare and mats and all that stuff
2) turn off radio

i've also heard just keep the car in drive for equal shifiting?

i need some tips..this is my first time and i'm reallllly pumped up.

does taking the left headlight out REALLY do anything or is it just to look cool? :lol2:

thanks in advance

Turn off your traction control. Leave your head lights in. (car doesn't look god without them). What class do you want to run? Can't run stock with a cold air box. Go to NHRA.com and find out what you can do, before you even start.

read zzp's site.

You can run the w/ a cai. I remove the headlight and filter.

Best tip. When you get to the track park the car and go watch others race. Get a feel for how the cars are staged and what lanes to use.

Drive around waterbox if runnign street tires. Go on 3rd yellow.

Have fun and good luck

First off dont pay attention to anything Ripn12s says. :lol2:
J/K

You also might want to lower your front tire pressure to 22-26psi and set the rear ones at 40-45psi.

One mistake I made the first couple of passes, was letting off the gas too early.

This is good advice.

wow thanks guys! a ton of replies!

so here is what i'm also going to do according to your posts

trac control off (i forgot about that)
i'm just gonna leave the headlight in...i'm not like a hardcore racer here :icon16:
and filter off (if my dad let's me :screwy: )

yea i'll def drive around the water box b/c i'm not burning out at all

why would i lower my fronts and pump up my back tires? seems like it would be underinflating my fronts and thus making it slower...i was just wondering why i should do this

gtp_sleeper....what do you mean letting OFF the gas too early????

you guys are sweet thanks for the help!!!

IF YOUR DAD LETS YOU!!! You might want to wait till you have a car of your own.

My son would race mine if he was 16 and if I'd let him.

Lowering the front tire pressure helps with traction since it's FWD. Raising tire pressure in the rear reduces their rolling resistance. Not sure what year your car is but in mine, '02, turning the TCS off doesn't completely turn the system off. The only way to completely shut it off is to remove the fuse.

At the track here inSt. Louis they don't do the different classes. Every Tuesday night it's just straight-up, run-what-ya-brung racing (as long as it has street tires). Pretty cool if you have a guy who's been talking smack and you want to challenge him to a drag. Our local Grand Prix club is usually the largest "Club" in attendance.

What I mean is if I was there I'd let him, but not without me knowing.
Detroit dragway still has classes. I like yours better.

Boy I moved to Florida 3 years ago, and just ran Detroit Dragways site to check if classes were still being used. It CLOSED the 6st of this month. Damn, I have to be getting old. Looks like the only one left close to Detroit is Motor City. Boy time flies when your having fun.

I do take my headlight out. Seems to breath a bit better without it. Take any extra CDs and other unnecessary junk out of the interior. I also pull the fuse for my TCS.......the only draw back is that you are disabling the ABS and MagnaSteer®......doesn't really matter though, you're gonna be driving in a straight line on dry pavement.

Not to hijack the thread, but our local track was completely rebuilt about 5 years ago. They added a 1.25 oval that hosts a Busch series race, a NASCAR truck race, an ARCA race, 2 SCCA National events, and an Indy race. The drag strip is the site for the NHRA Craftsman Nationals. Woooo......too much fun. The fee to race your street car is $15.

I think most people who take their GPs to the track remove the headlight. You shouldn't take the filter off the intake.

Yeah don't let up until you are sure you have passed the 1/4 marker. :banghead:

You take your cone off and are not worried about debri shooting into your engine?

What am I missing here Tim?

MAf screen is pretty sturdy

The MAF screen on the 04 is not really as protective as the 97-03 screens. But still I am surprised your run at the track with an open intake. Do you do your regular driving with a cone or a stock filter?

Ever since I dynoed w/ out filter I've been running no filter at track events.

I know of a few others that do the same.

I run a 9" kn MSP system

12second GPs suck balls. I am jealous of them too. They suck that is the most important thing though.

If my car was a slow POS I would be upset too.

The same goes for you gtp2000, your pussy will be worthless if you keep beating on it.

Is that sarcasm? Because if it is, it's a bit hard to pick up on. Just curious.

Even though this has nothing to do with this thread. I just want to let everyone know my car sucks and it was not worth modifying.

locked. I know that Jeff wouldn't say that about his car, so methinks someone is on his account.
