The mid-late 80's mustang with the 5.0 or the late 90's - 2004, 4.6 engines?

I owned an 87 with a 5.0 stock. It moved pretty well. I now own a 2002 that doesn't seem as quick. I'm not sure why? Although I did beat a 92 stang but it was tuff.

The 99+ GT's do not feel like they have the same grunt as the old 5.0EFI stangs. But they are definetly faster than the old 5.0's.

Technically speaking, the stock the 99+ 4.6 mustangs have a better power to weight ratio and better gears. (3.27 vs. 2.73 and 3.08)

I have a 87 5.0 auto...., silencer removed, KN filter, otherwise stock.
and a 99 GT auto...., silencer removed, KN filter (at first)
The 3.27 gears and extra 35 horses in my 99 made a big diff.
THEN.....I got 3.73 gears......BIGGER diff.
Now...I just got a 03 Mach 1.........
It just keeps gettin better !! :)

5.0s are tuned for low RPMs, so you can actually feel ALL that torque/power from like 2000 rpm. 4.6s are made so that they can be pushed into high RPMs, around 5500+. So thats why you might not feel all that grunt right off the line in a 4.6. AND 4.6s hav a throttle linkage problem, where it is kind of slacked, meaning if you step on it, it wont actually be 100% floored/wide open throttle. I do not think 5.0s hav this problem, maybe that helps?
