Help...Sugar in Gas Tank...

My '86 Z28 has sugar & water in the fuel tank that
had approx. 4-5 gallons of gas in it at the time it
was 'vandalized'.
The engine has not been started in order to prevent
further fuel system contamination and engine damage.
The repair manual states that the tank does not have
a drain plug and gives instructions for the removal of
tank.
According to the instructions one has to drop the
exhaust system along with the rear end in order
to remove the tank.
A 'big job' to say the least...
I'm inquiring here in hopes that someone may know
of either a short-cut to the removal of the tank or
perhaps has a 'solution' to the problem of how one
might 'cleanse' the tank without removing it.
Also does anyone know if this type tank has any
access panels on it that would facilitate getting
into the tank in order to better cleanse the inside?
Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
Vince
BTW: Engine is carburated and there is no electric
fuel pump in either the tank or the system.

it'd take out the fuel line that goes up to the motor and cut itand jsut replace the line
or cyphan it all out, and fill it up with premo (w/ octane booster) or racing gas, and change the oil

the sugar will rest in the bottem of the tank, you wont be able to siphon it out.. And once its sucked into your fuel system, it will gel.. plugging up your fuel lines/filter and possibly your carb..
hmm.. the best way would be to take the tank out.. I dont know how you'd get around it

Couldn't you just flush it ? remove the fuel lines or what ever you choose and flush it with something that will cause the sugar to dissipate and do it on a hill so you can then drain the flushing solution and fill er back up with gas n' go.

bp here isnt self serve... some liek citgos and stuff, and private gas stations/garages... btu in NJ its actualyl illegal to pump your own gas. so at least they do that.

Replace the tank, Perhaps your insurance or homeowners insurance would pay for the repair! You could get one from a junk-yard cheap.

Every gas station in Oregon is full service. I think I would rather pump my own gas instead of have some guy who could care less spill gas all down the side of my car. Then would have to open a can of whoop ass :chair:

Still no fix for the sugar?
Well heres what you do.
Disconect the feed and return lines to the engine, block them off with what ever you can find.
I bit of steel rod, Iv used a screwdriver and hose clamp in the past etc etc.
Drain all the petrol out of the tank.
Put it somewhere safe, like a portable container.
It might be an idea to filter it through some gause if you can.
Fill the gas tank with water.
Twice as much water as there is sugar.
This will dissolve all the sugar in the tank, and you can then drain out the water/sugar mix.
Don't be afraid to refil with more water to make sure you got all the sugar.
Now you have a gas tank with water residue in it.
Fill it with a litre or two of meths.
This will absorb all the water, drain out the meths.
You know have a tank filled with meths.
Refill your tank with fuel, add prehaps a litre (half a gallon roughly) with a full tank of gas and run the car.
The meths will mix with the fuel and be burned by the engine.
As long as no sugar has gotten into the fuel lines you will have no problems.
Iv used meths to fix water in fuel problems in a few cars, its espcialy good on carberated cars where the water will fit in the bottom of the float and stall the engine.

Its basicly Ethanol.
