ignition key hard to turn

Has anyone replaced the ignition switch on a '94 Escort?
The key is very hard to turn. You have to pull it out just a speck, and then fiddle with it until it finally turns and will start the car. Moving the steering wheel or floor shift (automatic) has no effect.
Does one have to put up with a new different key for the ignition (if I replace it), and the old key for the trunk and doors, or how do you rectify this?
Thanks,
Kid

have someone make a new key, but not like the wal-mart machines, they places where they actually do it by hand. Have them slightly offset the new one.

Just saw your post, CarPal, and I'm going to try that right now. Thanks.
