Help! I have a GMC Suburban. I've gone thru 2 fuel pumps in 2 days. Last time I had out, I saw the gray wire from the sending unit plug to the fuel pump had melted. I noticed the plug was corroded so I cleaned it good. Other than the melted insulation, the wiring harness is intact. Question, is it safe to coat this wire in "liquid tape" and re-use??? No one around here (Charleston SC) has this wiring harness and the only way to get new one from dealershiop is to order complete sending unit which costs $300. Yikes!

I had the same problem on my 97 chevy 1500 suburban and replaced it with a new unit. Sorry to say that the new one has the same problem with the the +12VDC (grey) wire melting away the insulation and corroding the conector pin. I finally got a replay form another that had the same problem and he opened the connector wire and installed a new thicker gauge wire and soldered it in.
The Dealership service shop could not explain it and the kept my truck for 2 weeks without a fix.
I just went ahead and mod'd my wire as described earlier , 6 months ago, and have not had that problem again. Hope this helps anyone else who has this problem.
