No going back!

I have a question about a trans problem I am having. I loaned my car to my brother for the night ('00 Civic Si), and when I got in it the next day to take it home, there was no reverse. He said it was hard to get in reverse. It is normally difficult to find reverse with the short shifter, and sometimes moving the car a little is needed, but when I got in it, it was not even there. The same thing happened to my other brother's car ('93 HB w/B16), so I thought it might be a common problem. Anyway, just looking for some advise on what I need to pull out first. And while I have it apart, what about adding in a taller 5th to make my MPG even higher than it already is?

so it didnt have the reverse problem before u let ur bro loan it. if it didnt ask ur bro what he did. it could b a messed up synchro or gear. try going into reverse slowly teh short shifter might make it hard for the synchro to align. if that still doesnt work start ur car put in in neutral let out the clutch for a sec then push the clutch back in and try reverse again. good luck

Synchro is gone. B16 trannies suck big time. I'd suggest to get a type r tranny or gsr much stronger. I would definitely get the Type R tranny for the short gears.

I have tried getting in reverse using all types of techniques, it is just not there anymore. If it is the syncro, can I just replace the reverse syncro and put the tranny back together? I am an experienced shade-tree mechanic, but I have never needed to dip into the inside of a transmission before. Thanks for the help.

You can if you want? I dont really think they sell just one syncro. I think you have to buy the whole kit for like 400-800 bucks. If thats the case then go with the type r trans. They use dual coned syncros just like gsr tranny.
