96 Cobra

I'm selling my Honda to get a new house and in the interim I am intersted in this 96 Cobra for sale.
Two questions:
1. Is 8000 dollars a fair price for a lightly modded 95,96,97 Cobra and 80 -100K miles?
2. Will this engine handle some kind of forced induction with 80K plus miles on it or will I be rebuilding the motor shortly there after? Within reason of course
I'm thinking of getting one of these and then throwing on a supercharger or turbo kit... I just am not familiar with the quality of this engine?
Thanks for your help

im your man for info, it all depends on condition of exsisting motor. get a compression test. miles mean nothing. if all is good then slap on an 8 pound procharger kit, good for 488 hp or 10 psi (if you want to push it a little closer to that limit) which is good for 519 hp. or 6 to be really safe which is good for 458 hp. all of these numbers are rated as superchargers on stock engines. any thing else you do is only going to increase hp numbers such as exhaust.any more questions?

Know that a 95 Cobra and a 96/97 Cobra are very different beasts.

Exactly, 96 and up Cobras have a 4V 4.6 engine, while 95 and back Cobras have a 5.0 that is almost the same as the regular 5.0, except for intake, heads, and cam (which was only good for about 25 extra hp). $8,000 seems about right for a 94 or 95 Cobra. $8,000 for a 96 and up Cobra is practically a gift depending on condition.

i know that the 96 has a steel crank which is a plus. dont run anymore than 10 psi intercooled supercharger cause of high compression.

And what do the 95's have, a plastic crank? Stop trying to help people when you just pick crap up out of magazines.

$8,000 is not a gift for a 96 Cobra that is about average for a 96/97 Cobra with normal miles and wear for the year.

Not to be an ass, but down here in Miami, most 96+ Cobras are somewhere in the 12K neighborhood. Here's proof. When I got my 99 GT I was looking for a 96+ cobra and they were all 12K and up, except for one that had been crashed and was in pretty bad shape which was going for $7,000.

Well if you really want a 96/97 Cobra come up here and I can show you plenty for $7-9,000. There are a shitload of late teens early 20's guys running around with Vobra cause it only costs them $10-12,000.

the mustang gt's and cobras have a completly different crank and a completly different motor to be exact. im just trying to inform him about the pros and cons of the cobra motor. oh thats right you think your bad cause you got a stoked 302.:loser: ive seen stroked 302's that were boosted, and my 96 cobra that did not come out of a magazine has spanked both of them.:lol2: oh maybe i shouldnt talk cause after all you do have a 4-banger. gotta love that pissed of bumble bee exhaust.:lol:i'll eat you rice any day pal. oh and to further answer aride11's question, the cobra motors are hand built by 2 members of svt(special vehicle team). they put their signatures on the left side manifold. this means that it was not built on an assymbly line lik the gt's were. in my oppinion this tells me that much more work and pride and time was put into this engine. i have put my cobra through a lot of abuse and a lot of boost and never had a problem. cobras arent the best cars out there, but ask most anybody around my town and they will tell you that a cobra gets a lot more respect than a honda or even a gt:)

I've been to the "niche line" at Romeo. It IS an assembly line, and they don't hand assemble that much of it.
You gotta admit, though, your other post was pretty pointless. Every Cobra has had a steel crank. In fact, so does every GT. In fact, so do most 4 cylinders. So does my lawn mower.
Or do you mean a Forged Crank? In that case Whooptie-doo. More often than not it's wasted rotating mass on an N/A car. Besides, they all have hyper pistons stock, which ain't gonna outlast a cast crank.
My Cobra doesn't get all this respect, it gets mistaken for a v-6 because it doesn't say 'Cobra' in the rear bumper.
I don't like to flame, buddy, but you have been here less than a month and your going to disect a post from someone who's been here a couple of years???
I have a four cylinder, flame me all you want.
ArideII- If you prevent detonation your motor will live under boost. Your tranny won't though. Keep this in mind....

The change in the hp of the 5.0 cobra to the 4v 4.6l cobra from '94-95' to '96-98' is 240 to 305. So keep that in mind also. I don't think that $8,000 sounds too bad. It all depends on the condition of the exterior, interior, and engine of course though.

Awesome, I didn't know any of that, thank you so much for enlightening me.
So if I put on an 8 pound procharger it will give me exactly 488 horsepower at the flywheel, and 10 pounds results in exactly 519 horsepower, right?
Put down the magazine son, I know you can do it.

Thanks for all the info fellas, didn't mean to cause any arguments. Anyway, I went and tested the Cobra, the power is nice and the looks are there... I just wasn't feeling the interior very much. I know the new Cobras have a great interior but this one would need to have the seats changed. I didn't find much lateral grip on them.
I'll let you guys know what I end up doing.
Thanks again.

I was told this by someone else so please dont blame me if its wrong...
I was told that the 96-98 cobra blocks could handle well over 1000 hp...
Not the internals just the block...
Hope im right...
