I Have A 98 Trooper With 84000 Miles. It Sound Like The Automatic Transmission Is Going To Fall Out When It Changes From 2nd To 3rd. Turn The Engine Off And Restart And The Transmission Changes Great. It Has Done This About 4 Times In The Past Month. Any Suggestions

"Harsh shifts" or "limp-mode"
Someone needs to check for codes and monitor computer data stream to see whats up. Probably an electrical problem.

Hi
Did you resolve this yet. I've just bought a 99 trooper with the same symptoms. Would like to know how to sort it.

I think my wife has figured this out - believe it or not !!!
The fault for us has not occured since allowing sufficient time for all sensors and management systems an opportunity to settle on idle before putting it into gear.
Im not sexist just amazed at her intuition on this one.
Anyway it works for us - if anyone knows why it would be interesting to know, and if the original submitter has the same result.
