im posting this for my dad. he has a 93 accord lx. The car won't start if its a hot day. if the interior of the car is hot the car just won't start. anybody have this problem before. it just cranks like its not getting fuel. my dad thinks its in the ignition switch to turn the fuel pump on or in a relay somewhere that gets hot and doesnt make connection.. once the car is started it runs fine.. any ideas...?

I am experiencing the same problem with my 4th gen (91) accord. If I leave the windows down for 20-30 minutes I can go back to it and start it. I have had it towed to a garage twice, and both times it started as soon as it got to the garage.... go figure. I know of a few possible causes. If the cab is getting hot, it could be the main relay or fuel relay. The only trouble is that I know of no way to diagnose unless the problem is present, that is why I dont have an answer yet. The other possibility is that it is the ignitor in the dist. cap. When this heats up and is faulty, the circuit opens and fails to provide spark to the plugs. However, the coil/ignitor usually only cuts out when the engine warms up. So your prob sounds like a main relay or fuel relay to me.....let me know if you get it nailed because I can not get mine to misbehave at the right times.

easy fix...main relay needs to be replaced. I forget the exact reason that it happens, but this is deffinately the reason, and this occurs very often in Hondas.

last i heard, the main relays were not made very well for the 4th gen accord, causing a solder point to break and lose contact when the relay was hot and expanded. once it cooled down and contracted again, contact is made and the relay works perfectly fine.
like 92lx said, its an easy fix, just replace the relay. its under the dash on the drivers side, just unplug the old and plug in the new. had to do it when i had my accord, along with just about everyone else thats owned a 4th gen accord.

Sorry to sound stupid, but I just bought a 91 honda accord ex for going back and forth to school. I have had no experience with any hondas, so could someone explain what a 4th gen car is?? I am also having the same problem with the car, the reason the guy sold it was bc he did not want to replace the fuel pump, (what he thought was the problem) So he sold it to me for $250. But I think im going to check this first.
