I know this gets talked about alot but anyways I am in the process of building a ls/vtec and I was wondering if you could just use a vtec controller insted of putting in a new ecu. If this wouldnt work what could I do insted.

You mean not use an ECU at all and just use a vtec controller? Then definately not. If you mean keeping the stock ECU and adding a vtec controller, maybe, expecially if the vtec controller is a V-AFC or a hondata unit. I'm not sure about the original ECU, it depends on what kind of ECU you're starting with.

no I would still use a ecu it is the stock ecu for a 97 integra gs.

yea that'll be fine, i actually just have my vtec activated by running the wire into my tach and when the shift light comes on, vtec kicks in. Ghetto for sure but it works for now

I dont know if this is correct but when vtec kicks in, doesnt the ECU have a new set of fuel maps once vtec is activated?
once again im not sure if what im saying is correct, im just coming up with some type of logic here, i could be wrong, which most likely i think i am. but then again if ur using the V-afc, u can create ur own fuel maps.

but using a vtec controller looks like it might work. Just get yourself a hondata ECU and bump up the HP some more
