2JZ detail help!

Hey everyone. Was wondering if anyone has detailed pics of the 2JZ. I need to know where the spark plug wires go and all. I am trying to build one of the most detailed F7F supra 2JZ motors out there to go in my hilux pick up! Let me know if anyone out there can help! Ive searched all day! Thanks-Matt

thnx for the pics! very helpfull! where the hell are the spark plug wires? I am assuming they are under the top cover plate like on integras and such. but where is the distributer? thnx again for the rapid responce!

as ive learned, and been told

theres almost nothing that can beat a fixed up supra, especially when u can spend $100,000 or less making one extremly fast, hell it costs a lot more for those European cars that are extremly heavy, and then u have to spend a lot of money to do any thing to the engine

show me a car, besides those funny car drag cars, and those cars with jet engines in them at the bonneville flats, that can beat a supra, id like to see it

I don't think the 2JG has one.

Today's performance engines (heck, even the VG30 from 1991) don't use the disributor. They have one of those direct discharge system, where each plug has a discharger (or something I forgot its name), and the timing is controled by the engine management unit.

At a contest long time ago, I remember seeing a 300ZX model with an aftermarket distributor. It also had spark plug wires attached to the side of the cylnder head between the exhaust header. sigh...

The 2JZ doesn't have a distributor. They use direct ignition. Since the valve cover is molded on the 2F2F and Tamiya version there is nothing you can really do. If you wanted ignition wire detail you have to run 6 wires from the back of the wire cover to the back of the block which is only going to be (in 1:24 scale) 1/4 inch, if that.

Hell, pick up this month's issue of Hot Rod magazine and check out the Pump Gas Drags. Here's the top ten. Keep in mind, the rules were full interior, DOT tires, and 93 Octane.

I think he may have meant import muscle, not american, not much can beat that.

I agree with Jesse, somthings afoot! Not many people could afford that much stuff with a good job. emphasis on MANY!

LOL umm if im seein right that 34 coupe is on BIG slicks and the titan motorsports supra runs a 8.90 on bfgoodwrench drag radials and i do belive it runs on 93 octane BUT i could be wrong about the fuel part not trying 2 ''own'' you or anything but there is a supra that runs that and its full body and not gutted.

rhanks for all the info guys! I suppose I will just run 6 wires from the back of the cover to knowwhere! lol I guess I will have to get my detail from vaccum lines and such! I wont rest till this motor is awesomly detailed! thanks again everyone!

Go to your local library, they often have the Chilton or Haynes maintenance manuals, and may have it for the Supra. You can use that to find out where the wires go to, and what the ignition source looks like. If not, just take a little note pad to the local bookstore (the ones at the auto parts store are often in plastic) and sketch it.

Hey. not to pour gas onto the open fire, but lets keep in mind that not only can a supra run consistant 9's (the 2JZ in paisley's Tundra is running what? 7's!!) but they do so reliably, without constant rebuilds, and when you think about it, they are a much more balanced well rounded car when compared to most of those cars you mentioned. You can take your 9 second Supra from the drag track to the auto-x meet and be equally at home.

I wholly agree with blue boost, Supras are very reliable and awesome cars, and have serious balls when a 2JZ-GTE engine is dropped in them.

It's ungodly fast. Quicker than my uncle's Chevelle on racing alcohol! The chevelle has about 895 horses, and more torque, but the supra is seriously faster.....

A: That '34 didn't make its passes on slicks. The event rules mandated DOT legal street tires. Didn't matter how wide they were, but they had to be DOT legal.

B: Show me an autocross prepped Supra that runs 9's. Go ahead. Show it to me. And did I say this had anything to do with handling? No. Supratuner posted this.

You want to talk handling we'll talk the Supra's lackluster international competition record (or lack thereof), but strip for strip, I've yet to see a streetable Supra that can consistently run 9's on DOT tires with a full interior and backhalved chassis.

No nine second anything is equally at home anywhere as it is on the drag strip.

That's the LAW. Law of nature. God would smite that car.

You know the ranking doesn't mean much, because it's not the car that makes them 9 seconders, but it's a matter of the entineers, who knows about the right parts, right equipment, most efficient modifications within the rules, not to mention the driver and a little luck. The prizes are awarded to the people, not to the cars themselves, aren't they? I'm sure this Mr. Robert Schmitt can make any car a 9 second car.
