Crooked ARB

I installed an ARB a few weeks ago and the driver's side was a little crooked:



The passenger side lined up just right. So, do I go ahead and drill out the holes to correct the alignment? Which holes and what direction? And will the extra space in the holes cause slippage at all when pulling with a winch (after I buy one...) :help:

I'm sure you've alredy tried, but you should be able to get both sides straight without drilling.

Did you have extra people helping?

Did you start with the middle bolt, then the front, and finally the rear? The front and rear bolts shouldn't be on tight until you get the side lined up.

Me personally, I would loosen the front and rear bolts on both sides. Have a few people over to help adjust the bumper until it was straight and then lock everything down.

I've done 3 bars so far. If you need help you could always bring it over. ChuckH and I could fix it. I've got a BIG hammer. :)

I tried a few different procedures of intalling the middle bolt first, then the front and rear. Then vice-versa. I wasn't sure if I have bent something underneath when I took a hit on the bottom bracket of the brushguard a few weeks earlier and that was throwing the alignment of the ARB off. But after mentioning having some people over to help I think the lack of extra hands was my problem.
I think my procedure could fall in the 'How NOT to install an ARB'. Notice the 4-year-old holding the sockets in the 1st pic and the upside down dogbed holding up the ARB in the 2nd pic. The 2nd pic was when I tried to install with the back bolts first and just about scraped the crap out of the fenders by trying to rotate the bar up using the back bolts to hold it.

I have some BFG MT's on AR767's sitting in the shed for outings. Because I am the Taxi for my kids to school, Taikwondo, Baseball and swim team I like to wear out the stock tires. AND I EVEN HAVE THE STEP RAILS STILL ON!
With about 30 minutes of prep time I can change the wheels, get the step rails off and be set for some off-road fun.

Yes, looking at your setup you might have been a bit undermanned.

Are you going to Mt. hood this weekend? If so, maybe some of us can give you a hand lining that up before the campfire or soemthing. Of course if we did need to drill that wouldn't be the place, but if it's just a matter of adjusting it, we could probably do it then. Mine had to be drilled and redrilled, and???..., but mine's not the Xterra specific bar. Yours shouldn't need drilling.

I'd be careful about Schlud offering his "BIG hammer!" :eek:

I would have loved to hit Mt Hood this weekend, but it's my wedding anniversary and we're heading to Deer Harbor. And we're leaving Friday morning so I can't partake of your help this weekend either. How's the weekend of the 2nd? I'll take this offline in e-mail.

I agree with the others it should be easy to fix without drilling.
I have installed a few and never had to drill yet.

Well I stripped one of my bolts and drilled thru the frame to fix the problem but that is another story.
