Service manual

I recently bought a 2001 Cherokee and I'm still getting to know more about it. Being a mechanic/machinist, I rely on myself to handle most repairs and modifications. With that in mind, I want to get a shop/service manual, so that I'll be prepared in advance for anything that might come up. It seems that the 2001 Cherokee has had sufficient changes from 2000 and earlier models that earlier model books are not entirely applicable. Doing a search on the web, I've already found one source that sells the factory service manual for about $105. That's a fair amount cheaper than any others I've seen so far ($135 and up). But, before I buy it, can anyone here tell me if the factory book is a good one? It appears that Haynes doesn't sell a shop manual for 2001 Cherokees (yet?). Does it include electrical as well as mechanical information? Does it include "fault codes" and how to access them?
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info. But which manual do you have, Haynes or Chilton? Whne I've seen them for other vehicles, I've always seen the two brands of manuals as seperate publications. So far, I've been unable to find a Haynes manual for the 2001 model Cherokee.

I have a haynes manual, two chilton manuals, and the shop manual. My haynes manual is for XJ up to 96.

Yep. And I've seen that none of the Haynes manuals are listed for the 2001 model year. I think they must have changed enough stuff in the Cherokee that year to justify a seperate manual.

or not enough changed to have them update the manual...here is a link to the haynes site. Notice they also have not updated the Grand Cherokee nor Wrangler manual since 00 either. Maybe you should write them and ask why...
