Electrical Problems

Big Blue Xterra

I own a 2000 Nissan Xterra with approx. 95K. Over the past 3 years my X has given me the same problem I have seen mentioned on several boards. The problem involves the instrument panel going out ( speed, Temp, Tach, etc.). My X also will stall for a moment while driving, but will return to normal if I let off the gas for a moment. This problem is a big frustration because the dealer keeps telling me they have to observe the problem to fix it. This is a problem becasue it never messes up when I am able to get to the dealer. THis problem also has a good side. While the panel is out, my X does not record any mileage. In other words I have taken a 300 mile trip and the odo will only record a 2 mile trip if the gauges are out. While this is an up side I would like to know what is going on. Thanks in advance!!

My 2001 did this soon after purchase, the flickering that is. They replaced the dimmer switch under warranty. It did it twice more, and twice a new dimmer switch under warranty. I guess 3 times the charm, 3 yrs and 70k later no problems.

There are two problems that might account for this:
There have been many that have had a circuit board replaced in the instrument cluster due to similar problems.
I also recall that similar problems were seen as a result of a wiring harness alongside the transfer case on the passenger side getting damaged somehow.

2000 X-T, 47,000 miles
I've had the same issue for over a month. Currently driving without gauges approx. 90% of the time. 2 weeks ago an additional problem began occurring when the gauges are out. If accelerating while climbing, X-T begins to lose power, chuggs and bucks, coming nearly to a stand still.
FSU recall performed. Getting same response from Dealer service, if it's working when they have it they can not diagnose. Bull! Sources tell me the computer stores the failure codes.
It is so frustrating, I can drive for 15-20 minutes to service center no gauges, run in and try to grab a mechanic, gauges are back on. Geez!!
Long thread on Xterra owners club.com. I count about 9 X-T owners with the same problem on that site.
Someone checked a repair invoice and gave me this info. Code PO500, speed sensor circuit failure, P/N FP24814-7Z062.
I'll be screaming tomorrow to try and get this resolved!
