I test drove a 1997 Cherokee country with 92,000 miles and it ran great except for hearing what I can only describe as a grinding noise in the left front. Quite when ideling, but hear this noise at any speed. I have a 1996 Cherokee and have never heard this noise before. The current owner says it's because of the tires. I don't think so. Hate to purchase this vehicle if it has an unknown problem. Anyone have an idea as to what this nose may be?

If its more of a rumbling-grinding noise, thats likely wheel bearings, which is a more serious repair. A squealing-grinding noise is more likely brakes, but brake noises usually change when you hit the brake pedal.
Otherwise, it could be the CV joint in the front axle, also an expensive repair.
