Depends on your definition of best. Best as in cheapest? Best for what kind of driving? Best for longevity? Best for instant power? Best for off the line power? Best for topend power? There are alot of variables. Plz narrow it down some if you want a decent answere.

A cam is absolutly pointless on an 86 motor, esp when the stock heads are the worst flowing heads in the world.

Do it right the first time, a nice set of heads will really help that motor breath, along with a good intake and a cam.

You said you have a carb already? Did someone convert that car from EFI, because 86 5.0's were EFI.

Buy some shortie headers, flip em around, JYTT it, non intercooled. You'll make more power and more torque than adding an intake and a cam, and won't be a whole lot more money.

Well im looking for the cheaper way of increasing the hp im pretty much looking for just all around power.....i race in long island on a 1/4 mile stretch of dead road i just want the car to be faster so i can have more confidence when racing on the street

what do you mean by JYTT? Will shortie headers make the car any louder b/c the car is loud but doesnt seem to be loud enough for me and i dont think it'll ever be loud enough for me.....as for headers whats the best brand bc i was looking at MAC shortie headers?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you will have to flycut your pistons for almost any camshaft you select. For the 86 engine anyway.

JYTT=junkyard twin turbo.

And yes your right to use almost any good performance cam or heads you need to flycut or change the pistons on a an 86(flatops).
