head gasket problem???

i just bought a 1993 impreza awd and the headgasket is blown, is it hard to replace??? can you do it yourself or the shop is needed to do this??? and if the shop is needed how much??? thanks.

your gonna have to pull the motor, which based on your machanical ability could be hard because of the heads being on either side. but that is the hardest part other than that providing the rest of the engine is ok it a matter of getting the head off and putting all the internals back together and timed right, so like i said if you know what your doing its not bad

i wouldnt bring it to a subaru dealer, there gonna charge you TONS!!! trust me i know, try to find a local mechanic who works on subarus, they should be able to give you a ball park figure, and to save a little $$$ buy the needed parts. thepartsbin.com usually has cheap stuff
