Help, am I burning oil?

So I installed a hi-flow cat and DC header on my 1995 Si about a week ago, and then the day after I changed the oil. The header gave off a bad smell when I first started it up, but now it seems to be atleast mostly gone. tonight when I was driving, I noticed a burning oil type smell. It wasn't real noticeable and I didn't see any smoke or anything. I opened up my hood and look around, still no sign of smoke, and every now and then a could catch a wift of it, otherwise, it didn't really smell that bad. So I checked my oil and it was right between the high and low dots after I had been driving around for like an hour. However, when I changed the oil, it was filled all the way to the high dot, but the car was also cold and had not been driven for a while. Is there any chance this means something bad, or is there maybe just a little oil somewhere on the engine that smells when it gets hot. The oil isn't black, it's still clean too. Any way to further diagnose this either? Thanks for any help.

check your oil when it is cold again. i'm willing to bet it'll be fine. just keep a good eye on it for a while. but a header and cat should have no adverse effect on your motor.

Yea, I wasn't really thinking that, I was just thinking I might be confusing smells. Anyways, I'm planning on looking at it cold tomorrow morning. Thanks for your input.

I looked at it today when it was cold and oil was still registering in the middle, as I expected, so I knew somehow it was leaking/burning. There didn't seem to be a leak underneath, so I turned the car on, and immediately oil started dripping, not flowing, from where the filter is. I can't check the tightness of it until tomorrow cause I'm ready to leave. So normally I would think it was loose, which could still be the case. However, if anything, I thought that I overtightened it, especially since I used a tool (mistake) :nono: . Anyways, besides being loose, is there anything that could cause it to leak, like overtightening or anything. Please let me know if you have any knowledge on this. Thanks for any help.

when you changed the filter, did you make sure to rub some clean oil on the rubber seal on the filter before putting it on?

Yup, sure did. I'm really hoping it's a simple fix like a bad filter or too loose.
