Howdy folks, My name's JOn, I'm a newcomer to this forum
and have been reading the posts w/ great interest.
My work tk is a nice old '87 F150 w/ a straight 6
It got flakey, then wouldn't start.
I replaced the alternator, and it worked for a few days,
then died, couldn't even jump it.
Put in a new battery, still nothing
(except 'chatter' from the starter relay on the fender)
Usually start the thing many times a day,
and assume the starter is bad.
Put it up on ramps, took out the bottom bolt w/ gnd strap,
disconnected the power wire from the relay,
and took out another bolt near the exhaust manifold
Can't for the life of me find another bolt.
It won't come off, seems to be attached to a shield of some kind
by the flywheel.
Any idees from you folk in the know??

Its been in there for some time, therefore use a little muscle to get it out. There are only 2 bolts that hold in your starter, so you got them, it will come out.

Once you get the starter out, you can take it to your local parts store such as Autozone or Advance Auto Parts and have them test the starter for you. I would agree that it seems like it would be your starter.
