Hey guys,
i currently have a 3000GT vr4, but am thinking about looking into getting a 911 from the late 80's, anything u guys can tell me about those models, and prices and stuff to look for...thanks

The guy I bought my 94 off of was looking to buy a late model 911 like the first porsche he owned. He liked the the way his 86 drove better, he described it as less refined, had more raw power which made them a little tempermental but a hell of a lot of fun to drive. He said the later models ( like the C4 ) were great, but they just didn't have the same feel. That being said, a 86 911 in good condition with about 50K miles should run in the neigborhood of $15,500. A 88 in the same type of condition will run about $18,500 ( working with private party, dealers will jack up the retail a bit ). Now if you are interested in a turbo, that will hike up the price and I know that they had some problems with them, but I don't know much beyond that. Porsche's and 911's in particular will retain their value pretty well and are a good investment, not to mention a wonderful driving experience, once you get the hang of them. My advice is to go someplace and take a test drive, see if you like the feel and go from there. Shop around and be patient, wait for one in excellent condition with the milage you are looking for. The Carrera 3.2 ('84-'89) is a reliable, low maintenance car with a good power-to-weight ratio. A high-compression, cat-less version was available in Germany and in some other parts of Europe. Also, European versions tended to be lighter due to the fact that they were usually ordered with less accessories (a/c etc.). Starting in 1987, the G-50 transmission was offered, giving better shift-characteristics.
If you're looking for a Targa or a Cabriolet, test it at a car wash first to make sure the roof doesn't leak. Those can be pricey to restrip and reseal.

87-89 carrera 3.2, like he said, G50, what more can i say.
