rebuild questions....

I want to rebuild my motor in my 92 GT. What I want to know is do you think that it's possible to rebuild a motor for under 800 dollars? I know that I can get an overhual kit with new pistons for 460. I don't know if I need to turn the crank or if the cylnders are in good shape. Would it be cheaper or better to get another motor from a junk yard?

If the crank is fine just toss in new rings, bearings, gaskets, timing chain and go. If the crank is in bad shape go pick another shortblock up out of the junkyard and rebuild that.

I wondered the same thing, because i thought you had the hone the cylinders no matter what?

Depends on how bad off they are. It is good to hone the cylinders, so that you have a good crosshatch so your new rings will seat better.

Honing is so obvious when you re-ring a motor that I didn't even mention it. I meant if the cylinders are in good shape as in they don't need to be overbored. If you don't hone before re-ringing a motor the rings will not seat properly.
