I have never owned a Volvo, but am buying a '89 240 GL Sedan in two weeks.
I love the simple elegant styling of this model and am looking forward to learning more about it.
Here's the dirt. ** I think I am getting a steal on this one **
The guy that owns it is selling it just to clear out his driveway. His parents bought it new in 1989 and have kept every receipt from every scheduled oil change and maintenance issues. He showed me the file and it is 2 or 3 inches thick!
When his Mother heard he was going to sell it she wanted to buy it back, but her husband said no because they already own two other new Volvos.
I am only paying $750 for this one and it has the following options.
*High mileage - 287,000 -- I am not concerned it's in "A" or "B" condition.
*Power everything, heated seats, etc...
*Leather interior -Drivers seat has some wear, back seats look brand new.
*Power Moonroof
*Four new tires
*New Blaupunkt CD Changer Stereo system
Body on this one is in great shape! No rust, and everything on it is original inside and out.
Paint is a little faded and the exhaust system needs to be replaced.
Any advice on what I might need to be aware of (mechanical tips) in the near future would be helpful. Also, which brand owners manual should I purchase for this series vehicle?
