Clutch dumping?

Alright first off i'm new :) and yesterday i traveld 4 hours south to pick up an awsome condition 91 VR4. when i got there i was surprized on how it looked. It's had only one owner and it just got a brand new black paint job and new redone leather intierior 2 weeks ago and it has been garaged kept all its life and has 109k on it (relitivly low for it's age i think) but theres one prob. no matter how slowly you let the clutch out it feels like it just dumps it hard and the car jerks bad and the clutch is hard as a bitch to push down does this mean it needs a new clutch\pressure plate or whatever (sorry not a mechanic)? it does it bad in the first couple gears but once you gain speed you dont notice it as much when u shift becuase of this he lowered the price to $5900 (great deal?) so i'm hoping this is only a clutch problem and all i need to do is replace it cause i really love this car lol. Its already got a K&N Intake, cross drilled rotors, rebuilt tranny, new tires, redone intiror and new paint. also i didnt ask anythig about the exuast but it seems that the left set of tail pipes are loud? somewhat like a gutted cat but not as much as a aftermarket muffler, i dunno is anyone elses left set of pipes louder? anyway thanks guys and i just really wanna know about the clutch.

Sounds like a good buy! I jsut got a 95 SL with 98k for the same exact price. I'm new to the whole manual thing but it sounds like he might have an aftermarket clutch thats a bit too beefy for day to day driving. And about the whole tail pipe thing yea if you look underneath the exhaust system splits from one pipe into two but the right tailpipe gets less because it's not in a straight line with the origional pipe (like the left is) and it dosent get as much pressure/noise... at least thats how I reason it, in any case it's supposed to be that way as far as relative noise/pressure.

thanks for reply, well i dunno about it being a beefy aftermarket clutch, but then agian i'v never had experence on a car with a beefy clutch so i dunno, i actually bought this from a dealer and 3 other people test drove it and one guy actually said thats how its suppose to be....but i don't think it is..hell the owner of the dealership even told me he didn't think thats how it was suppose to be so he took off 600 bucks off the price so i could buy a new clutch (nice guy eh?) but now someone else is telling me that it could be just my slave cylinder (dunno what that is) has some air in it and just needs to be bled. but anywhoo i just wanna know for sure why my clutch is like this, the delaer didn't even know if the clutch has ever been replaced or not..if not i could understand what an awd car will do to a clutch over 12 years. also one more question, on the bottom left corner of my guage cluster the "Sport tour" light keeps blinking..whats this mean? and an orange idiot light that looks like a radiator with liquid in it is always lighted. i checked the radiotor and it was full so i have no idea. thanks again guys

hard to say. my clutch releases very very quick. my buddy has been driving a stick all his life and he got in my car and it took him awhile to get use to it. hopefully its just a clutch thing and nothing with the tranny. make sure to get it checked out soon

yup yall are right, ripped the tranny out at a buddy's shop and a bright shiny aftermarket flywheel\clutch was seen lol. i guess i just gotta get used to it, i got it so i start pretty smooth now. after finding out about it, i took it for a "real" test drive down a long streight away. and this thing just flat out hauls! it makes my MKIII supra turbo feel like a civic. welp thanks for ur help guys

LOL wow I was right, not knowing anything about the internals of most cars that was an awsome guess on my part.... or I listen to too much car talk on NPR lol.

yeah also - you said the clutch grabs real nice an tight - i mean i would just get used to it -cause damn a tight clutch is awsome - it means everything was installed properly an adjusted good an the equipment installed was quality- sounds like yo got a great deal on the car - congrats. you can adjust the clutch cable to the point where it doesnt grab as fast but if i were you knight - i would just take a day or too an just drive it an get real used to it cause it sounds like your set with it---- Good Luck With Your New Wheels Man!!!!
