What do you think of KYB AGX Adjustable Shocks? Are they better than Tokica Illuminas? Will they work well with Ground Control coilovers or any other coilover. Who has any experience with Ractive Toucan coilovers?

I think the Illuminas are a better performance shock then the KYBs, although you probably wouldn't notice on the street with moderate spring rates. The KYBs tend to fade under heavy use, such as an Auto-X, with stiff springs. Konis have a great line of shocks from the Reds to 30 series race shocks, depending on what you are looking for.

But, anyway, like Texan asked, what's the goal here?

I just want it for everyday driving. The Koni Yellows are more expensive than the Illuminas right? I don't want to spend a fortune on coilvers and shocks

Yes, the best costs more on the outset. I have never had personal experience with the KYB's, so I won't say anything about them one way or the other. I have had experience with three different cars on Tokico Illumina's, and I must say I've never been impressed with them. IMO, they just don't have enough adjustment in them to cater to serious performance use, but that's just one man's opinion. I do also like Blistien SP's quite a bit, so that wouldbe my only other recommendation. I just won't recommend Tokico's anymore, my epxeriences with them have never been positive.

If you wanna lower your car more than 1.5", don't get KYB AGX shocks.

I ran Tokicos until rescently, and the adjustment is the only complaint I do (did) have with them. I needed about a 3.5 jounce and 4.5 rebound. Obviously you can't do that on a single 5 step adjustment. Other then that they did hold up well under abuse. Ride quality is subjective, although Texan is deffently not the first person I've heard not liking how the Tokicos ride. But that's not really the point in my application anymore, although it is in yours, so. I'm with Koni DA (series 30 in the rear) now, which would be serious over-kill for you.

With shocks you pretty much get what you pay for. The Konis Yellows are more expensive then the Tokicos, but they are also better shocks in both ride and performance. Bilsteins are very nice street shocks also.

I have my rex lowered 2.25 on sprint lowering springs with KYB AGX's and my car runs nice, smooth, and tight. I also have the car set to the hardest level. If I had it set softer then it would be a better ride.

I just put on 00' Si rims.

I wouldn't bet on those kyb's lasting long with them set on the stiffest position and lowered that much!

I'm using Ground Control's with KYB AGX's lowered 2.5" and the ride is very nice. I've been using this setup (and driving agressively on it, middle settings usually) for about a year. No problems so far.

I have the AGX on my Integra with Eibach Pro-Kit and it rides pretty nice. It actually rides better with my friend's 18's then my 17's. Can someone explain that to me? But like someone said before, it would be better if you can adjust the rebound and compression seperately.

Just purchased new set of KYB AGX for 200 bills on ebay, a little optimistic of longevity of performance (yet the price was too good to pass up). I currently have cheap ass tenzo-R springs with 2.25 inch drop but i'm going to swap them out with some coilovers to get a 1.5 inch drop instead- which is the suggested drop limit by the manufacturer. With that said regarding the KYB AGX's, I have two questions/points-

1. Is a drop of 2 inches or more required in terms of acquiring better handling. I have a CRX which already handles great stock, only suspension mod are 13lb 16' rims which produced a major improvement in acceleration and handling.

2. Is the car's weight a factor? A lightweight car such as the CRX should produce less stress on suspension components. If this is true, than probally "nicecrx's" comments may not seem too far fetched. I personally hope not, especially since he claims to have a 2.25 inch drop on his REX for over a year with no problems with the shocks.

Been running KYB AGX for about 2 months now with H&R sport springs. THey are stiffer than stock on the softest settings and can be set to a real stiff ride. I keep mine on the softest setting and still have a bit of trouble drinking a cup of coffee on my way to work. I think they work well, but I have nothing to compare them to.
